2nd Trimester

Weight restrictions?

I have not asked my doctor this and don't have another appointment until January so I thought I would ask you ladies.

Has your doctor told you how much weight is safe and unsafe to lift during pregnancy? I know that later in pregnancy you have to be really carefull with weight but I am 16 weeks and I have a job where I have to lift boxes of files that are quite heavy on a weekly basis and I am wondering when I need to call this quits. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Weight restrictions?

  • Mine said to not go over 25 pounds

  • FWIW, the specific number my doctor said was 35 lbs.  If it's something that you routinely did pre-pregnancy and it's easy for you to lift, you're probably fine.  I would avoid anything that you know you could lift but it would be a strain to do so, KWIM?  Make sure you lift with your legs and don't go too fast.

  • I wouldn't put a number on it, I still lift weights at the gym and more than 25lbs.

I'd say, if its heavy enough that you couldn't lift it a few times, don't lift it once.

  • I always think about young moms who have toddlers and still lift them while pregnant... So my assumption, since it's so common for them to do, is that it's probably OK between 20-30lbs, but I wouldn't push it much past (especially the farther along you get).
