Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

FFFC

Can we do this?

I have two.

1) My DCP is now transitioning DS up to the next toddler room. While I should be excited about this, I am not--mainly because it means that I'll have to buy 4 Christmas gifts for teachers rather than just the 2 I had originally budgeted for.

2) I wish I could afford to buy clothes at Anthropologie. I get irrationally angry at the world that I cannot do so.

I hear ya on the clothes, KJ. I have lovely taste, really. I just can't afford it. :P

My FFFC: As pathetic as this is, every day when I check the mail, I have the completely irrational hope that inside will be a giant check from a relative to help us out. Every. Day.

There never is. I'm not sure why I hope for one. I just do.

I do the same thing with the mail.  Every time I check I'm hoping for some sort of money gift from somebody.... it never comes.

I have no motivation to decorate for Christmas this year.  Normally, I can't wait.  And you would think I would be super motivated by DS.  But I am not.

Also, we haven't done anything Christmas related with him.  I thought I would be all about it but I am just too stretched for time and energy.

  • This year we will be celebrating Christmas 4 different times.  Tomorrow with DH's parents and family, the 23rd with my father, the 24th with my sister, her bf, nephew, her bf's parents and my mom.  Then on the 25th we will be celebrating again with my mom and brother.

I can't stand the fact we have to do this because no one gets along.  My parents divorced when I was older so I never knew what it was like to actually split holidays.  I know DS is too young to understand what is going on but I feel bad dragging him everywhere and knowing this is how it is going to be for a long time.

  • I love the holiday season when everyone is so cheery and I get to go shopping and there are gingerbread hot chocolates and lattes everywhere. But I am already tired of people who feel the need to shove their religion down my throat. Cant you just leave me alone and let me enjoy the whole commercialism of December like normal people?

Indeed.  She can murder a song in 3 bars.

For someone with such a powerful voice she sure does an awful job of showing it off.

  • I wish I could live down south during this time of year. If I never saw another northeastern winter again, I wouldn't miss it.

Also, I don't understand why cookies are so closely related to Christmas. I was invited to a x-mas party where they will be doing a cookie exchange. It took me 2 hours to make 3 trays of rum balls last night. I'm not signing up for anymore parties like this.

Also, I don't like when things become a "tradition". As in, I brought cake and caprese salad last year. So it means that I'm obligated to bring it again this year. Or if you offer to host a party at your house one year, everyone expects to gather at your home the following year.

  • I don't drink because I enjoy the taste of alcohol.  I drink because I like the effects of alcohol.  In other words, I won't drink a beer because I like beer--I'll drink a beer because it will likely lead to another beer and therefore a buzz.

I only drink one or two times a month so I don't see this attitude as problematic.

  • My daughter (who will be 2 years old tomorrow) still eats a Gerber Pasta Pick Up for lunch almost every day. I typically try to feed her something something different on the weekends, but she's super picky and it's really easy just to throw the pasta pick up into her lunchbox for her school lunch. I typically pair the pasta pick ups with some fruit and a yogurt and I figure it's a pretty balanced lunch. I like the fact that the pasta pick ups have protein, fiber and some whole grains that my child would not otherwise have in her diet. I figure those factors balance out the fact that it's processed and is somewhat high in sodium.

I've been feeling the same way this Christmas. I think it doesn't help that we are in a pretty nasty place financially and I feel badly that I'm not able to buy the things I'd like for the people that I love.

  • 1.  One of our cats ran away last night for about 5 hours.  I'd been telling DH for 5 years, ever since we got the cats, to supervise them when he takes them outside.  They're indoor cats but they love eating the grass in the grassy knoll by our front porch.  DH let the cats out and then went back in the house to get his phone.  In the time it took him to do that, one of the cats took off.  We spent hours last night looking for him and I was terrified that he'd be injured or killed by another cat or a raccoon.  And it was well below freezing last night, so I was worried he would freeze to death.

I was incredibly pissed at DH for letting them out in the first place.  The cat was my cat and I love him to bits.  I was so upset that after the girls went to bed for the night, I told him to leave me alone, went upstairs to our room and shut the door.

About an hour later, DH comes in and wakes me up by putting my cat on my chest.  I was happy kitty was safe, but I was still pissed at DH.

When I left for work this morning, I noticed a pile of stuff on our front porch.

DH had created a little cat bed for my cat, just in case he couldn't find him last night and so kitty would have a warm and safe place to sleep.  He also put out a little bowl of food.

That made me feel super guilty for being pissed at DH.

    2.  I agree that the hippopotamus song is dumb.  "I'm getting nuttin' for Christmas" is infinitely better.

  • I have another.  I'm wearing boots today that are many many sizes too big.  The reason?  I have child size feet.  No lie - I wear a size 1 childrens shoe but I also have adult sized calf muscles.  There is no such thing as a knee high, heeled boot for wide calves in a children's size.  So instead I've got like two gel inserts in there and am walking as little as possible :-p

Me as well. I don't drink unless I am planning to get a buzz. Which I do about once a month. There is a benefit to having a DH that thinks he is too cool to go into a bar.

  • This is going to sound horrible.  I took a new job in May and absolutely LOVE it!  When I left my old company, I had some people that said I wasn't qualified for this new job, blah blah.  They are clearly just jealous.

My new job requires me to provide support to my old company.  It's fun watching people who criticized me before look stupid when they submit an incident they say is "wrong" when clearly it isn't.  I respond very nicely and when they feel stupid, I feel better.

I'm from Maine, but for the last 11 years have lived in warmer climates (I am in New Mexico now).  I never thought I would miss the snow, but I do.  Especially around this time of year.  Christmas just doesn't seem the same without snow.

  • I'm not sure how to say this without sounding kind of greedy and selfish. But our campus office parties used to be focused more on fun/reward for employees--a great meal, music, gift swap, singing. In the past 3 yrs with the budget issues and overall economy, there's been a lot of necessary simplifying and a huge shift to making donations elsewhere in lieu of gifts. I don't mind donating--I give to CHOW or other food programs each time I buy groceries, bring school supplies to collections at the beginning of each semester, help with fundraisers, donate clothes and toys for Christmas, etc. If they want to add a donation program to the holiday parties, fine; it's great to help out this time of year. But I don't see why we had to end the gift swap or secret santa options and only donate. It just feels like we're not allowed to have fun and enjoy ourselves any more sometimes.
