  • I think texting is one of the best and worst things out there.  Lately it has been really annoying me.  I am sick of being around people that are just texting the whole time.  The other day my sister was texting her friend who was at a Christmas party.  To me, it's pretty sad if you are at something that's supposed to be fun and the whole time you are having a text conversation with someone you see all the time (they work together)!!

I just don't get it I guess.  That being said, I do text and think it's a pretty convenient tool but at the same time it's way overused.

  • I agree with you.  Texting is fine but it should be common sense that when you're with someone else, texting is rude.  It'd be the same as spending the whole time on the phone.

At Thanksgiving, FIL spent a good portion of dinner, texting.  He was texting relatives and what-not to say Happy Thanksgiving but it was, like, hello - We are eating Thanksgiving dinner here!  I would expect it from the teens but not from 'Grandpa'.

LOL. I understand why people buy them for their children, but I will never own a pair, either. It's just NMS.

I feel the same way about Uggs. I don't ever want to try a pair on, cuz I believe that they are comfy, and I don't want to go there.

  • I have never sent a text in my life- my phone doesn't even have a data plan.

I have never owned crocs or uggs- personally they are just NOT for me.

  • I refused to buy Evie a winter hat with a face on it. I don't know why, I just really didn't want her to have a hat with a kitty face and ears or something like that. I think it's attached to my distaste for children's clothing with cartoons on them- when she's old enough to ask for it, I'll consider it, but until then she doesn't need Cinderella or Winnie the Pooh on her chest.

I have seen cute animal hats, I think they're cute, I just don't want them on my baby's head. I can't explain why.

This makes me LOL. Uggs are from Australia which makes it funny that "they serve a purpose of being very warm for the winter months". Also, I have a friend from Australia and Uggs are not worn as shoes there, they are slippers. If someone wore them out of the house there people would look at them like they had three heads for wearing their slippers in public.

My UO is that I hate it when people use the word "curvy" in place of fat. Normally I am "curvy" but not overweight (I am usually a size 3 or 5 but right now I still have some baby weight so I am overweight). I feel like I can't describe myself as curvy without people thinking that means fat (in situation like this where you can't see me). In general I hate it when people use words in a different way than (I think) they are meant for.

I would never put DS in Crocs for this reason. Kids in Crocs were always falling while playing when I was teaching. I am also not a fan of the Bumbo. We will never have one here.

    That always gets me, too!

  • LOL - if it weren't for Crocs I'd have to go back to Burkie's!!  (I've got wide feet normally so they actually fit my feet properly and with the PG swelling, I literally have to wedge my foot into a croc even)...  Cute shoes - pfft - the only ones that fit me are made for drag queens and are impractical as a SAHM ;*o((

My U/O...  I hate DD's school and everything attached to it...  She's in the "booger picker years" and should be enjoying this time and excited to go, all we've gotten from her in the past two years are tears, crying, and a loss of skills (last year she was at the top of her class, this year, she's bottom end)...  We can't get her into the school that both DH/I liked because of an insane waiting list and he refuses to let her go to public school...  It also doesn't help that the school year started off on the wrong foot with me (but keep that away from DD and try to get her attention diverted to the positive)..

  • I don't know ladies... these don't seem unpopular at all. I agree with most of you.

I own uggs- they saved my life last winter when I was pregnant and nothing else fit!  I also own crocs, but I justify it becuase they aren't the typical crocs- they are more like crocs ballet flats. I got them to wear by the pool because they are waterproof but safer than flip flops if I need to run or do yardwork or something. I don't wear them to the mall or anything  Stick out tongue  I think texting is ruining the world!  I used to get so mad when I was in a one-on one meeting with my boss (an executive at a large financial company- who should know better!!!!) and he would be checking emails and texting while we were talking Indifferent  SO rude!   I make my hubby leave his iphone and work bberry in the other room when we eat dinner becuase he'll be on it the whole time.  And i'm not against children's character clothing, but I totally "get" it. I prefer my son to wear "little man" clothes.  But like pp said, once he can ask for an elmo shirt, he'll get it!

ok, now i'm rambling.  My UO... I don't want a Christmas card with your family photo on it. If we're super close, I love to see your child, but I don't want you and your hubby in your red sweaters hanging on my wall.  I decided not to do a photo card of my son and my hubby got SO mad. As a compromise, we're sending a small photo inside the card for our close friends and fam (the grandparents, etc.)

This is what we are doing also. I just like traditional cards better than photo cards.

  • To clarify... we live in a warm climate and in July when it's 108, everyone wears uggs and mini skirts.  wth.

And agreed on Crocs - no support and Olivia won't wear them when she is walking, nor will Jackson.

  • I just thought of one-

I think giving babies/kids a bath every night is overrated.  It's a lot of extra work for no reason.

    image
  • I love Christmas "brag" letters.  I send one but it's a mix of good stuff, not-so-good stuff and tad of funny stuff the kids did.  I don't share a lot of that stuff on FB and we have plenty of family not on FB anyway.  My favorite letter was from DH's uncle and aunt.  His uncle wrote it and made 2 columns "Good" and "Just plain bad", it was hilarious (his intent).  Some of the good resulted in the bad and vice versa. The only ones I don't care for are the ones that are damn near identical year to year.  Seriously, your kids didn't do anything different this year?  Oh, and I love the photo cards, all types:)

  • I love giving baths!  My kids have a blast and it eats up some time in the evening when they are tired and rammy.  I give baths every night... my husband is a 2x a day showerer sometimes and I have never EVER skipped a day of showering so we maaay be a bit obsessive.

We are the same exact way. Besides we are in FL and go to the beach, pool, or playground every day and my girls get dirty. Really really dirty. Especially DD #1 with all her long hair. We try to only wash hair eve other day if possible but they need a body wash off and they love to splash together in the tub after dinner every night anyway.

And I am the opposite of pp, if its not a photo card its almost pointless. I want to see everyone, how everyone has grown and changed! I keep them all in a seasonal scrapbook (well its a box right now but it will be a scrapbook one day HA!). I hate the plain card with like a bell on the front and a scribble of names inside. Whats the point? Its the most thoughtless form of thoughtfulness IMO.

  • Oops forgot my own UO: I hate when people dont have anything in their siggys. I understand that some people are concerned about privacy, and I get that, but you could have anything there. A ticker, a picture of your cat, a clip art emoticon, any identifying thing to make you stand out! I usually don't even read those responses if the thread is long, my eye just skips over it.

I do side eye the whole "school thing", but I will say I have friends with kids in daycares that really do have a structured curriculum and that do get progress reports, so I get it.  It is school like.  What kills me is when people say they can't do X, Y, Z because Jr. Has "school".  relax, champ, it's not Harvard.

I get the whole daycare/preschool thing when the kidoo is older, but really what is an infant getting "graded" on, pooping?

We do traditional cards, usually through a charity, and include a pic for family and close friends.

  • My biggest pet peeve is when people beg others to go to a website and vote for their baby in a cutest baby contest.
  • I can't stand people that have children with men {or women} who are obviously going to be bad parents. I mean...HELLO! You can't keep it in your pants long enough to find a suitable role model and provider for your child, that's just sad. I read all these sob stories about the crap that people put their children through during the holidays and I just don't get it. Do not have sex with somebody who is a crappy person. Simple. They are probably not going to change just because you have a child.

I call DD's PDO "school" because she has teachers, recess, circle time, art projects, and music class. Of course I know it's not real school, but I think it's cute! My UO is that I hate newborn photos. The ones where they're in a basket of sheets or a stocking or whatever. I think they're unnatural and that babies shouldn't be used as props. Take a picture while they're sleeping, but don't ball them up in a basket just for a picture.

Really?!? I wouldn't dream that someone didn't love those pics!! They take my breath every time I see them! To each their own I guess...

  • I hate the whole "tip" system. They should just build it into the price and call it a day.
