Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Little ones and movies

Has anyone taken their LO to a movie yet? I swore no movies for a few years but I'd love to take DD to a daytime showing of the new Chipmunks movie, but I'm not sure how she would do. She is fairly attentive, but still, she is only 14 months...

If you have not yet taken your LO to a movie, what age do you feel is appropriate to take them to a kid's showing?

Re: Little ones and movies

  • The first time we took our kids (it was just the boys) to the movies they were 3 and 4.  we went to see how to train your dragon on a midday weds afternoon.  there were only 4 other ppl in the theater.  we left after only 20 minutes of being there b/c they would NOT SIT STILL.  they kept getting out of their seats and looking around.

My mom took my 3 year old - now 3 1/2 year old last week to see puss and boots. he was fine.  sat there the whole time watching the movie.  He did get up "to go pee" over 10 times she said, but other then that...he sat there.

I probably will not take DD until she is at least 3.

Sawyer Quinn (09/06/06), Rory Keaton (04/07/08) and Kinsley Saffron (10/12/10). Forever and ever my babies they'll be. A rose can say "I love you",orchids can enthrall, but a weed bouquet in a chubby fist, yes, that says it all.~Author Unknown

  • I haven't taken DS since he's not quite 1 yet but I took my niece when she was 3 and she was pretty antsy. We made it through the whole thing but she moved around a lot and had to sit on the stairs (it was during the day and the theater was pretty empty).

  • I can't get my little guy to sit still long enough to read a book much less watch a movie :) I guess I will try to take him when he is around 3.
  • We just took our oldest son who turned 4 in October to his first movie in the theater the day after Thansgiving (we saw the Muppets). It was a super fun and special day for him and I think he will always remember going to his first movie. My younger son is 14 months and he has never watched tv, but he literally can not sit still for longer than maybe 2 minutes. Taking him to a movie would be pure torture for all involved.
  • I think it would depend on the individual child's personality, but I know DD is NOWHERE near ready. She's not too interested in TV at all, but I can't see us even going to a day time kid's movie until around 3 years old.
