so apparently (i read this on Cup of Jo Monday) you take the name you're considering and put it in a "setting up a blind date" context and see how it works.
So, I would say "Hey, wanna go out with my friend Baz? I think you'd really like him."
friend would answer: "hell, yes!" ;-)
Did anyone do that? Do you think any of the names on your lists failed? (obviously, all of our chosen names are WINs at the blind date test, but we all had names we nixed....)
Re: kid's names: the Blind Date test
I dated a Sebastian for awhile. Great guy all around. Funny and smart! Why did I let him get away? lol
Crash sounds like he might be a mess emotionally, but I would imagine someone would love his tats!
I've never heard of the test, and did no testing of C's name but I think if someone had tried to set me up with a Charlie I would have totally gone for it, rugby shirt and all.
DH's name on the other hand, eh, maybe. If he pays. LOL.

I get a lot of "ooh, very English sounding"...I've heard (on the baby names board) anything from that his name sounds "super hickish" (like "chewing tobacco in mouth" and all) to that it sounds sort of British-Pretentious (and the person who said this has a daughter named Pippa and said she meant it in a good way). So I guess it would depend on which impression his name left with the person. Of course, *I* like it...but I picked it, lol.

Not worried about what we picked, and if anyone does decline, their loss.
DH and I joked he was going to be named Orzo (like the pasta) Uzzo (sp? it is a wine). I don't think that one passes the blind date test, or any name tests though.
Well I just think Clive Owen so I would be all "hell yeah!". LOL!
I've never heard of that, but think the names we picked out would pass. Kate (our daughter) totally passes in my opinion, but our boy name choice (Ben) would have passed with flying colors, too.
On a side note, I met my husband on a blind date so his name obviously passes my litmus test as well!
This is a good test...but would you have *ever* thought "Barack Obama" would fit?!?! As Chris Rock said: "That's a name so black you expect him to be carrying a spear!" (or something. I misquote.)
Of course, now that I'm typing it and looking at it- it's TOTALLY a presidential name! (Which really just means everything is relative.)
fail w/ all 3 of her names .... her nickname .. eh, not sure. it's still a pretty old fashioned name - Rosie.
We get a lot of compliments on EJ's name. People love it and the "older generations" really love it because they all have a beloved uncle/cousin/father that had the name. His name is really traditional irish/english from before the 50's so it really is classic. It is becoming more well known now (still cant find his name in any spelling on mugs and stuff) but I have read a few blogs where mom's have a son named it.
My mom is the only one who didn't love the name, but now she says "since him being around I know you picked the right name because he is nothing but an EJ"
Of course, his name is also a family name so not shocking there. FIL's uncle was the last E (as a first name) in the family and DH is close with some of his kids and as soon as we had EJ we made sure to send them all his birth announcement and they shared it with their mom (his wife) and she was just so happy. (his family has long generations, meaning most don't start having kids until late 30's and into the 40's except his parents, so he is the age group of FIL's uncle's kids).

EJ is growing up too fast!
