About how long can you use prefolds for? I know it depends on which size you get for how long they are usable. I just mean in general, does it get harder to use prefolds as baby grows older? Hope that made sense!
It's definitely more of a challenge to diaper a toddler with a prefold, pin/snappi and cover than it is to use a simple pocket or all-in-one, but tons of parents use prefolds well into toddlerhood and they love it!
I still use them as my backup diaper, and I carry a couple around with a cover in the diaper bag, b/c they are easier to pack than pockets IMO. But I gave up using them exclusively around 15 mo, because she was just so wiggly to change!
It's definitely possible to use them exclusively, though!
PFs are our go to daytime diaper and have been since day 1. I actually stocked up on pockets pre-baby, but we are a pocket hating family. None of the one I tried fit him well and I hated stuffing them. And folding a PF for a tiny baby and using a pin/snappi isn't hard at all.
We quit using pins/snappis a long time ago. (It was probably not long after we started solids and his poop wasn't quite so runny. So maybe when he was around 7 months? And he's 16 months now.) We just trifold a PF and lay it in the cover. If I think he is going to poop, I try to spread the back corners out again, but it's no biggie if I don't manage.
So, imo, it doesn't really get harder to use PFs, despite what others may say.
