How do I gett my supply back on track?

I think I have messed up my supply. I have had to go out and about a few times in the past few weeks and was not comfortable nursing. So we used bottles. I could not pump. Last night after almost 2 hours of nursing DD took 2 ozofformula. What can I do??

  • Nurse, nurse, nurse. The best way to get things back on track is to get your breasts emptied as fully and often as possible - the baby is the best way to do this, but you can add a pump session if the baby isn't cooperating.

And then think about what you can do differently now that Christmas is coming! "Holiday weaning" is a problem common enough it has a name, and it's exactly the problem you're up against. https://www.llli.org/nb/nbiss3-09p30.html

I totally get the point of this article, but man, it's a bit over the top.  Just take a battery powered pomp or a car charger and pump in your car if errands run long. I hate feeling house-bound and tethered, but I understand the importance of keeping up with supply and demand. So I pump any missed feedings. But wearing my baby to an adults only party? No thanks. And my baby screams in her carseat/stroller...not taking her shopping.  But mommy needs to get out every now and then, you know?

That might be your experience. It's not mine at all. I do get out (and I have at various points in this crazy ride), but I don't enjoy leaving my baby if I think he's going to cry the whole time. And my baby doesn't cry in his carseat, stroller, or carrier. Never has - he loves shopping and grins at everyone while checking out the exciting lights and sounds.

I'm not saying everyone is like us, but more that I don't want to be made to feel guilty as an EBFing mom, if I have to do holiday shopping and enjoy doing it without my screaming baby. Or want to enjoy a (gasp!) adult only holiday party once this season. I am just saying, while the suggestions presented may work for some, they could have made suggestions to benefit those who have this issue for a reason. I cant take DD shopping b/c of the screaming. And she won't sleep through a party...way too excitable. So unless I go nowhere, these aren't practical for me. Why not just suggest pumping to replace a lost feeding and be sure to not miss too many feedings in a row?

I am just a bit sensitive to this b/c I feel like things like this make BFing seem so limiting. A BFing mom shouldn't HAVE to take LO everywhere or never leave the house. If you want/choose to, that's another story. I think people get frustrated and give up on BFing b/c they do feel tied to LO all the time. In this day and age, there are enough resources and tools that you can BF and be able to leave LO from time to time.

  • Which is great, if you play by the rules to keep your supply up. If you try to cheat "just this once", though, it's easy for formula supplementing to just take over.

Oh, I totally agree. I am just saying the article failed to even mention it as an option. :)
