Anyone use generic formula?

I was looking at the Target brand formula (even though Target is not on my good list with the whole Britax thing...) and it says it has the EXACT same ingredients as Enfamil Lipil - but for about $11 instead of $24.

Does anyone use generic formula?  If so, which brand is best?  If not, why not?  I would obviously love to save money if the generic is just as good as Enfamil.

Thanks!

Re: Anyone use generic formula?

  • I used either Bright Beginnings or Target.  I liked both.  However, I could only use Bright Beginnings with Matthew since Jonathan had reflux and I tried Target with Chris but he also was diagnosed with reflux so we had to switch.

  • We tried BRU and Target's generics and Target worked best for us.  It saved us so much money and Evan actually spit up less with the Target formula.
  • We use Kirkland (Costco) brand, which is almost identical to Similac Advance.  We switch back and forth from Similac Liquid (we got a ton for free), and Kirkland powder with no issues.  Its like half the price!  I know some babies have issues with switching on and off, but I was lucky and mine are good with both.  My pediatrician said that formula is highly regulated by the FDA so generic is fine.
  • We use Parents Choice from Wal-Mart.  We like it much better than any brand we've ever used.  It doesn't foam up as much and the boys don't mind it at all.  Our ped said definitely to save the money.

  • Yup! When the girls were 4m old we went to generics. We use WM brand, but only bc I detest going to Target.

  • We switched from Similac Advance to the Target brand about 2 mo ago.  No issues and it has saved us a ton of $$.  We'll continue regardless of the Britax drama . . . I big fat puffy heart Target and lothe Wal-Mart (long story).
  • We switched from Neosure (almost 17 bucks for a measly 12.9 oz can) to Kirkland brand from Costco. ?With Kirkland brand, we get two 29 oz cans for 16 bucks! ?A HUGE savings for us! ?Our pedi told us to go ahead and switch once the girls reached their due date, and we were so glad to do so. ?Mary and Lila have had absolutely NO issues with the switch--not a blip on the radar.
  • We use the Target brand as well.  Max even has reflux but he's on Prevacid and can do any formula.  Seriously, it saves so much $ and it is the same thing, someone told me it even comes from the same plant...urban myth?
  • I used the Target Enfamil version for DS - it worked great- actully liked it better than the real thing- less bubbles.

my pedi said it was fine- totally the same.... just 1/2 the price. you can also get $1 coupons from target if you call some number- i might be able to find it.

  • I used the the sam's club brand. it was half the  price of the enfamil and you get twice the amont of formula.
  • We used Parents Choice from Wal-Mart.  Our pediatrician actually told us the company that used to make the formula used in hospitals was bought by Wal-Mart and it is the same exact stuff.  That was good enough for us!
  • Awesome - thanks so much for all of the responses!  Definitely looks like we'll be buying generic from now on!  We had to use the special preemie formula - Enfamil Enfacare - until 9 months, which was more expensive, so some type of savings on formula now is going to be great.

    Thanks!
