My MIL is generally a little too excitable anyways, but she has really gotten into the swing of things the last week or two. She was sitting near me in church the other day and saw me touching my belly during a prayer (eyes not closed??) and has been gushing over 'how sweet it is' and how she'll 'cherish that image forever'. She is obviously just excited, but I am feeling forced to crank up my own excitement artificially to respond to her unrestrained gushing.
So she mentioned in conversation the other day that she had the urge to touch my belly (which has little to no bump yet) because she's so excited but kind of laughed it off like she was kidding. But then a couple days later when she was leaving and I had already said goodbye she came back to wave to my stomach about a millimeter from my body because she had to say goodbye to the baby! I can sense that she is working up the nerve to actually go in for the feel, which I am currently not okay with. When the baby is kicking enough for someone to feel on the outside I will reconsider, but at this point it just feels like someone touching my tummy fat...not fun.
I know I'm just being a grump, but I feel like the extreme excitement is forced on me against my will.
Re: MIL working up the nerve to touch my belly
ugh, gross. My SIL is like that, already talking about babysitting. She seriously took a fb post of mine from last night (I was upset learning that American Girl archived all the cool characters from our era) to mean that we know we're having a girl. SIMMAH DOWN NAH!
I feel the same way! LOL! This is my third baby and a lot of my bump is just fat. Please don't rub my fat, people.
But that is pretty sweet how excited she is. I think if she does touch your belly soon, just be honest with her. Tell her it makes you uncomfortable right now, but when the baby is bigger and kicking you'll let her know.
