I have been wanting a Maltese puppy for the longest time. DH has been adamant about waiting until our basement is completely finished so the crate can go downstairs, among other things.
Well, he finally caved. ![]()
To make a long story short, DH has been searching high and low for a Maltese for me for Christmas. After contacting a few people selling them online (which were all scams by the way) we finally found a woman whose Maltese had puppies in October and she is selling them for a decent price near where we live. We are going to see them tomorrow!
I need name help, though!
It is a girl, and I know that I want a "human" name (not anything like Fluffy, Oreo, Cookie, Lady, etc.)
Some that I thought of were Piper, Claire, and Nina (which DH strongly dislikes.)
Any ideas for a cute, shorter, female dog name? ![]()

That's a good idea! I love Friends, and thought of Phoebe! Haha! It just didn't feel like "the one"
I'll have to start reminiscing about book characters!

That is awesome! We named our rabbit Chewbacca after DH's favorite movie...Hahaha
What about Emma? If I remember right that was Ross and Rachel's baby's name. It's short and cute and I think it would be a good name for a Maltese.

Me too! I'm really leaning toward Piper, but I still want some others to think about! DH gave me an "Eh, it's alright" for Piper!

I always wanted a little dog named Minnie. I like "old timey" women's names for small dogs.
But instead I got a gigantic monster dog named Pawley, after her gigantic monster paws. DH is suuuper creative!
Dx: Feb '13 - HSG shows clear tubes but minor diverticulitis; Borderline DOR; Low DHEA and low testosterone.
Moving on to IUI or IVF.
We've got a peen.....it's a boy!
Little man born 11.17.2013 via c-section
I like that too! However, it is on the list for a future LOs name! Haha!
Chemical Pregnancy
Ha, I love Chewbacca, especially for a cute little rabbit. A girl I work with named her doxon (sp?) Vader after Star Wars. Kinda weird for a female dog. Then again she is a strange sort, she got rid of the dog 9 months after she bought it. But that is a b!tch for another post.

Yeah, stay away from names you REALLY like. I named my babies Gracie May and Charlie Bucket. And I love Grace and I love Charlie for babies.
How about Molly (Molly Moo?), Charlotte (VERY cute for a fluffy puppy), or Lily?

One thing to keep in mind too is that the dog's personality might help you pick the name. I have rat terriers and when I got my first one, I had picked him out online and he looked like a little cow, plus it was 10 years ago when Austin Powers was popular so my boyfriend at the time and I decided we'd name him Mini Moo and just call him Moo. We thought it was so cute.
BUT, the day we got him, the name just wasn't connecting. We didn't have any alternatives so bf went online to a dog name site and started reading off the Z names. The only Z name I could come up with was Zappa. I said it and my little puppy's ears perked right up. He has been Zappa ever since and it fits him perfectly!

Bitsy and Stella are my faves. I also like Audrey, Ruby and Billie Jean. Odd - these are also the names I liked when naming my car (I know it's weird).
April 2013: Femara + Trigger + IUI = ???
I would be careful of anything too cutesy. When we were naming our dog growing up (ended up being Scruffy) my dad vetoed any name that he couldn't picture himself standing outside yelling to call the dog. If your dog got out would your DH feel right walking the neighborhood calling for "hunny?"

My sisters dog is named Melody. But choosing a name with one or two syllables is easier for dogs to recognize.
I had a cat named Stella and my cat now is named Pearl. I also really love Chloe.

Raddest Queen Of Them All
I like science. Here's proof.
I have a maltese/bichon mix and his name is Theo. His sisters name is Lola. A friend has her and I like to check up on her on facebook!
Also, good choice in the breed!
Some of my female pets have been, Emily, Piper, Turtle, Pandora, Luna, Heidi, Gigi, Baxter (thought it was a boy bird until she started laying eggs!) and Natasya. Males have been Loki, Hero, Scout, Kensie and Tabi.
Let us know what you choose and SO happy for you! I want a dog really bad (this is my first time ever being petless after we lost my dear kitty Emily this last August), but we are waiting until next year. I want a German Shepherd female and I already know that I want to call her Quinn.

I love human names for pets!
Our American Bulldog is Frank and our Boston Terrier is Fender (Fendi for short). She came as a rescue. I love boy names, even for a girl, like Charlie or Billie. Girl names are good such as Harlow, Victory, or Molly.
I also like when the names mean something. Like where you and your DH met. We live in Chandler, AZ in the Phoenix metro area. If we were to move from here, I'd like to name a pet Chandler, Arizona, or Phoenix. Something like that...

Piper and Paisley are definitely on the top of the list! I also like Sophie and Claire! We'll have to wait and see what happens tomorrow!

Piper is my kitty's name
It's a great name for a snuggly pet!
(plus it's gender neutral as my baby is a boy)
I'm joining the discussion late but I wanted to throw in another vote for Piper. So cute for a Maltese.
And I also like the idea of using a fave TV character. Our cat, for example, is named Rudy Huxtable. We just call her Rudy for short.
Make sure to share pictures when you finally have her!
