Innotab watch movies how?

Can someone please explain to me in laymans terms how to watch a movie on the Innotab?  If I have a dvd can I somehow load it onto the device - if so how?  I can see that a movie needs to be in MPEG format but how do I get it there?  HELP!  This was one of the features that made me go with an Innotab but if I can't do it then boo!

Re: Innotab watch movies how?

  • I guess I just assumed you had to use the "digital download" copy that comes with a lot of DVDs these days. I haven't even opened ours yet, though, so I haven't tried anything myself.

  • I don't have an Innotab, but I researched this a bit when I thought about purchasing one for my son. There are many people having this issue,  from what I stumbled on while doing research on the internet. I do not believe that digital copies of movies are saved as MPEG, so you will need software to convert the file for you. Problem is, there doesn't seem to be any free software that does this. The general conscious among Innotab customers is that more and more parents will be voicing their frustration after Christmas and Vtech will (hopefully) provide more instruction. My opinion is that Vtech rushed this product out on the market before it was completely ready so they could compete with Leapfrog.

  • After some research I figured it out!  It's quite easy, but very time consuming.  You put your dvd (any dvd you want to transfer) into your computer then you have to decode it, this is somewhat of a grey area because you are basically decrypting it  (I am in the camp that I bought it, I should be able to use it on what I want to, without distributing or sharing it).  I personally used

After that is done (takes about 10-20 minutes) you take the files you want to transfer and use another free program to convert it into the right format.  I used Super https://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html.  You check the right formats, box one change to AVI, and box two to M-JPEG, and the audio box to MP3.  This part took 2 hours!  I just started the process and went to bed :)

Once you have done that, you simply drag and drop into your SD card and then you can insert it into your Innotab and you are good to go.

Hope that helps someone else!  I was beginning to think I needed a degree in IT to do this!
