Glimpses of the future: when your privacy starts to fade away

This is a silly little anecdote, but it struck me today.  I was...ahem...sitting on the toilet and all of a sudden baby starts kicking.  Then it kind of strikes me: even my most private moments that I am so used to are going to be really different and probably start to fade pretty fast as a mom!  I can't even use the bathroom by myself (I mean technically baby has no where to go right now, but I have a feeling that this may be a common theme once he arrives!).  It was just a funny moment.  Funnier when I told this to DH and he looked at me really silly like "are you really telling me a story about you and the bathroom and the baby?"  I told him that I have to live with these things so he gets to hear about them!!!

  • My mommy friends say they can't ever close the bathroom door when the kids are home.  I am more worried about being sick with a baby to take care of.

  • Well, my dog follows me into the bathroom all the time. He follows me everywhere, actually. I guess I never considered it odd that baby was there'd because I've usually got a hyperactive puppy staring up at me while I pee.

  • Do you know how often I say, "Can I PLEASE just take a crap by myself?!"  Wasn't long after DS came, that DH decided it was totally cool for him to waltz in, too.  SO not cool.  I am a VERY private pooper.  I used to be.  *sigh*

My dog tries to squeeze her head in and drink out of the toilet before or after I sit down! Eww, crazy dog!

  • Lol I have the same experiences. Although, when I babysit my nephew it's always interesting. I feel like I have gotten a first hand glimpse into the whole 3 yr old, no boundaries apply rule. SIL's bathroom does not lock and he always comes waltzing in so now I feel like I can't use the bathroom there until he's down for a nap. I just keep telling my bean there's a no open door policy in this house but I know it's to no avail ;)

  • Eventually they don't want to come in with you anymore. It doesn't last forever :)

  • The only time I use the bathroom in private is at work or after DS is in bed.  I'll go upstairs and he follows right along saying "Evan watch."  No....I don't need you watching me pee!  He refuses to be left out though.  DH says he does the same thing in the mornings to him.  "oh..daddy poopy!"

I do get a "mommy, good boy!" afterwards though Big Smile

  • It has almost been 4 years since I have gotten to be alone in the restroom, other than at work. My DS's dr suggested I take him to the restroom with me and sit him on the potty training toilet when he was 18 months so he starts to understand. It worked great, he was potty trained before he was too. However, I have not gotten to go alone ever since. My dog even likes to come in and sit down next to me, he is a black lab and st. bernard mix, so when he does he is almost the same height. My DS doesn't join me as much now that he is 5, mom isn't so cool anymore.

Both my cats do this! My kitten won't even let me take a shower alone. Weirdos.

  • My 3 yr old is finally starting to understand that when mommy and daddy go potty we shut the door. Yesterday he was sick and would not let me out of his sight. I had to poop SO bad (which as most of you know is a good thing during pregnancy lol) and DS had to be there the whole time. I figure once the new baby gets here I'll be using the bathroom with the door open again so I can hear whats going on with DS and the LO. Might as well get used to it again *sigh*

  • I'm just hoping my little guy isn't quite so helpful as my youngest nephew...  he'll go into the bathroom with my sister, get the toilet paper, and holding it up proclaim, "I help, Mommy!".  I'm pretty sure I can wipe my own butt without a two year old's help...  at least having a child in the room could be a little entertaining...
