Baby Names

Officially crossed off my favorite name...

DH and I were talking last night and have officially crossed of Harper as our #1 girls name. I love it, but with it's gaining popularity and celebrity usage, it's only going to go downhill. Although I am not opposed to popular names on other children, I do not want my child being 1 of 5 Harpers in her grade level.

So, we are back to square 1! Here's our list, let me know what you think... also suggestions greatly appreciated!

Hadley (NN Haddie)

Everly (NN Evie)

Stella

Ainsley (DH's love, but I'm not sold)

Harlow (although it makes me think of Nicole Ritchie)

Emery

P.S. Our boy name is set. Elliott Neil.

Re: Officially crossed off my favorite name...

  • The only one I really like is Stella. Emery is a boy's name so I'd cross that off if I were you. GL!

  • I think Hadley, Everly, Harlow, and Emery are destined for the same fate as Harper.  That leaves Stella and Ainsley.  I think I am actually going to side with your DH on this one!  :-)  Ainsley gets my vote, Stella is close behind.

  • I'm partial to Stella (it's DDs name), but I also love Ainsley. Stella wins though.

I really dislike, Hadley and Everly. Harlow is my uncle's name and Emery is a boy's name.

  • I love Hadley, Evie, Ainsley and Emery.

A PP had said that Emery is a boys name but to me it is too feminine for a boy. I love it on a girl. I liked someone else's suggestion on using Harper as a MN!

  • Stella is a special name to me, so that's what I was drawn to.

  • Harlow is my fav off your list and closest to Harper.

    Stella would be second.

  • I really love Everly.  I'm going to add it to my own list :)

I think Stella is massively overrated.  To me, it sounds like a waitress at the old diner I used to go to in high school.

I like Stella best off your list.

This is what I think of when I hear the name Stella. But I don't think many kids will know this (I don't even know what movie it is, I've just heard people do it). I love the name Ainsley. A character on my favorite TV show (The West Wing) is named Ainsley and the character is a strong, smart girl who stands for what she believes in (even though I don't agree with her most times).

  • I really like Hadley and Stella but those are also gaining in popularity...I think Stella is in the top 100 but I could be wrong.

How would you pronounch Ainsley (traditionally or how it looks)? That would be my deciding factor.

I dated an Emery so it's a boys name to me and I dislike the others.

  • I don't think you have to worry about Harper sharing her name with 5 other students. It's just not that popular. And it has a long way to go before it gets that popular (Isabella, the most popular name in the country, isn't even that popular).

From your list, though, I like Stella and Harlow. For you, I would vote Harlow because it's so close to Harper.

This is exactly what I was going to say. Harper isn't that popular, and I really don't see it ever getting as popular as Isabella, Olivia or Sophia. If anything, I see Hadley being more popular than Harper.

I do like most of your name choices, I don't care for Stella but I know multiple dogs named Stella. Hadley is at the top of my list, I also like Harlow.

If Harper is your favorite girls name, then I would go with that.

  • Hadley (NN Haddie): Too I-was-born-in-the-early-2000's sounding for me. I think it's the -ley part

Everly (NN Evie): Same as above, though the nickname Evie is cute. What about Evelyn?

    Stella: Meh

Ainsley: Same as the first two

Harlow: Makes me think of harlot

Emery: Makes me think of emery board, and it's traditionally a boy name

I actually like Harper a lot more than any of these, and it doesn't strike me as being that level of popular that she'd have 3 others in her class.

    Love your boy name.

  • I personally don't like any of them, but if I had to pick I would go with Stella.

  • I really like Stella, but I do think it's going to become VERY popular (as is Harper). My two BFFs have a cat and dog each, both conicidentally named Stella. I actually like Emery for a girl and would spell it Emory for a boy's name. You could go with Emmerson, Emily, or Avery, but those are also pretty popular these days. Have you tried nymbler?
