Freeze oldest milk and give freshest to LO first? Or vice versa?

I have 3-4 feedings worth of pumped milk in the fridge, the oldest being from 4 days ago and the rest from each day after that.  I'm confused about how to cycle through the milk and which milk to give LO now (we want to start 1 bottle feeding a day with DH since LO is now 5 weeks old and I am going back to work at 10 weeks), whether I should start with the oldest milk or put that in the freezer and give him the fresher milk?   I am getting about 4-5 oz each time I pump so I am thinking that I can freeze 3 oz for my stash and keep 3 oz fresh for the next feeding...does that make sense?

  • I would freeze the fresher milk and give the older. With just a few days worth of milk it doesn't matter as much, but as your stash grows, you want to make sure you use milk before it expires.

    this...

I would consider all of that milk "fresh" because it hasn't been frozen yet. therefore, I dont think the 4 day old milk is any better for lo than the today milk. just use the older milk because it expires sooner

  • I use the oldest, but make sure she gets some fresh each day too, so that if you were exposed to any illness, she would get the antibodies right away.

  • Thank you...he actually did come down with a virus last week, a cold  ;(  We've only given him 2-3 bottles during that period, though, and they were all pumped within the previous few days so that's good.  But then the milk that I've pumped and frozen in the past week will stay in the freezer until it's needed, I hope he got enough antibodies from the milk I've given him and the frozen milk hasn't "stolen" too much of that!?
