Is it possible for my ribs to be bruised?

I've been feeling LO in my ribs since about 27 weeks. He is posterior and I can't get any relief when I sit down or stand up. If I sit down, I feel him so more in my ribs. If I stand up, my back hurts. The only time I get relief is when I lay down which I obviously can't do that all the time. A few minutes ago, I stood up and my ribs literally feel bruised. Is it possible for LO to do this to me?

Re: Is it possible for my ribs to be bruised?

  • Yes, mine are and my mom had her ribs bruised when she was pregnant with me and my siblings. I have even heard of some women getting their ribs broken by babies constantly kicking on them. I would think you'd have to have very brittle bones for that to happen though.

  • If I learned anything from Breaking Dawn, then YES! But medically, you'd have to check with your doctor ;)

  • I keep telling DH that it feels like I was punched in the bottom of my ribs. SO painful, and I can't really find a position to relieve it. Ouch!
  • There is a spot right at the top of my ribs that feels literally like a burning hot iron is being held to my skin. It hurts to the touch. So I'm going to say YES, they can be bruised...among other very uncomfortable things.

  • OH YES. I have been battered and bruised for many weeks and right now I have two displaced ribs that hurt like hell. So yes ma'am and it could get worse!! I hope for your sake that it doesn't. :)
