Last u/s

We're going for our last u/s on the 7th. I'll be just over 37 weeks. My office does u/s for everyone in the 37th week to demine position and estimate size.

I've just been wondering why no one else is posting u/s info? It's been forever since I've seen an u/s picture. Is baby so big at that last u/s that the pictures aren't very good?

Re: Last u/s

  • I asked my doctor about an ultrasound in the 3rd trimester and she said that they usually do not do one if everything is progressing well and on time and if I'm generally healthy.

  • With my doctor you only get one ultrasound mid pregnancy unless there are issues. I've had two because of a cyst on my baby's brain.

To check for position, they just feel my belly. Size by ultrasound isn't that accurate so they don't do that.

  • As you get further into your pregnancy less is visible on the screen. I have weekly fluid checks with my NST's and monthly growth scans. You could hardly tell what you were looking at on the pics at my last U/S.
  • I haven't had an ultra sound since my a/s at 20 weeks. Our babe was head down then and my doctor said it's very rare that they flip back at that point.  Now that internals have started, he can feel his head so we know he's still in the right position.  I kind of think this is standard practice?

    This.

My doc always seems to be able to determine baby's position just from feeling my uterus from the outside.... as well as estimate weight. They don't do ultrasounds after 20 weeks unless they suspect something is wrong. (At least not where I go.... not saying something is wrong with your LO...)

  • We had our last ultrasound today to check fluid levels, estimate babies size and make sure she is head down. Honestly, we couldnt see her face at all. It was literally in my crotch, the tech said it was smooshed against my bladder. We could see the spine, belly, heart, etc, but mostly she is too big to really see on the ultrasound. None of the pics we got are something I'd share online. They are like black blobs.

It was cool though because they measured her head (measuring 39 weeks) her belly (measuring 30 weeks) and her legs (measuring 39 weeks). They guessed her weight to be 5 lbs 14 ounces which puts her just under 8 lbs at birth (my other two kids were right around 8 lbs).

Dont expect great pics, but it's a fun ultrasound nonetheless!
