Come in if Lo's pulling to a stand in the crib

I removed the crib bumpers a while ago and now LO's pulling to a stand (only when she isn't wearing her sleep sack, otherwise no pulling up in the sack .... yet!). So the other day she was crying bc she pulled to a stand then must have fallen, and her one leg was hanging out of the crib slat and her other leg was under her. Is there any way to prevent this from happening!?

  • duct tape her down at night.

  • I don't think there is anyway to prevent it (short of Rim's duct tape). H has been doing this for about 2 months now. I left the bumpers in the crib so she doesn't get stuck in the slats, but everyone has there own opinion on bumpers.

Have you tried the breathable bumpers? Maybe that would prevent any injuries.  Hopefully your LO has figured out how to get back down again.

  • I put a breathable bumper in.  So far she hasn't attempted to step on it, but even if she did. I don't think it would provide a foothold.
  • I got rid of the breathable bumpers; he's been standing for about 3 weeks now.  He's ridiculously strong and rarely falls, but when he does, I just chalk it up to a learning experience.  It's just going to happen, frankly.  It's scary the first couple of times, but he doesn't even cry anymore.

He will also sit with his legs through the slats and swing his legs.  Crazy kid!  He's going to be in this crib for another year at least, so I just give up.  I watch him on the video monitor so I know he's safe.

  • Ok, I'll be serious.  I put the bumpers back in her bed when she started standing.  they aren't stiff enough that she could stand on them, but they do help to prevent her from showing her legs through.

  • Hummm maybe I'll try breathable bumpers! This only just happened this weekend, so I'm sure in time she'll learn how to get herself out of the crib slats!

  • I moved the crib down to the lowest setting but kept the bumpers... I went in one night to a screaming little baby with his chubby thigh stuck in the slats and the bumpers went right back up.

  • My babe has been pulling up in the crib since 7 months (10 months now), and she would freak out when she fell at first or pull up then get "stuck" cuz she didnt know how to get down, but she learned with practice, i tried to take her bumpers out, because she sleep all the way in the corner (was hoping that would stop it) and she freaked and would not sleep in her crib til i put them back
  • I put the bumpers in. Both my son and my daughter have a horrible habit of getting their legs stuck and then flailing wildly in panic. I am afraid they are going to break something.
