Babies: 6 - 9 Months

When do babies start liking food?

My DD is a little over 6 months old.  I started introducing solids a few weeks ago, and so far she seems to hate everything.  She makes an "eww this is gross" face when I give it to her and sometimes spits it out.  I've tried making my own baby food and the organic pouches, and I've tried mixing the food with a little breastmilk or rice cereal, but nothing really changes the way she seems to feel about it.  My mom told me it's normal and that it's just the baby getting used to the texture, but I'm wondering when will she actually be used to it and appear to be enjoying eating.  When did your LO get excited about solid foods and stop making funny faces when eating?

  • Although I haven't had your experience, when we were given the ok to start solids, the nurse at my Pedi said that it can take up to two weeks to really determine if a baby likes something or not. I guess it might be an "easy-does-it" for your LO. Good luck!

  • I think every baby is different. DS loves food and has from day 1!

  • I'm in the same boat....:S

It seems that DD just started maybe accepting cereal without making faces.....I won't say it to loud though...lol

  • DS still makes faces at the beginning of every mealtime.  But after a few bites you can tell he really likes it.  I'm sure it will just take some time for your LO to get the hang of it.
  • My LO will still make faces and shudder when he eats a food he doesn't like (he really didn't like fruit in the beginning, now he's okay with it). Keep trying, it will click soon :)

  • We have been lucky so far because DD has liked the three foods that we have tried. I am a bit worried about green veggies, but I have my fingers crossed that she will like them.

We are lucky to get one bite in, and then she refuses more.  The only thing she seems to have liked was carrots.  She ate two bites of those.

  • I would also say that every baby is different.  DS has loved everything I've given him, except peas! He even makes a little mmm sound after every bite lol. Stick out tongue

  • I like the funny faces sometimes lol, it doesn't always mean they don't like the food though, it could just be because its a new experience as my son does for the first few bites. It depends on the baby though, mine took to food from the start but some babies take a lot longer. Just continue to be patient with her.
