My back has given out..

I never had such awful back problems with my first pg... this one is waaay lower and I'm guessing that's why I've had back pains. Well tonight, it reached it's breaking point.. It feels like I locked up my lower back. Nothing is making it better. I'm waddling when I walk and trying to get comfy sitting or laying down is a joke. I'm on the couch right now because every time I tried laying in bed, it would lock worse. If it feels like this in the morning, I'm going to make a doc. appt but I'm not really sure what they will be able to do about it.

Anyone else having this problem?

Re: My back has given out..

  • o.k... so, have you tried a hot shower? I get back pain every night right now, and my DH also has some major disc issues in his lower back. We both sympathize.

Nice hot shower, try to get down on your knees, leaning on the edge of the tub on your hands. left the hot water hit the area of greatest pain. I usually let it flow for a few minutes to loosen me up, then start stretching. Arch and flex arch and flex, super slow. rock your hips back and forth too. These motions may also shift the baby for you into a less painful position.

Since your so sore and having trouble moving, i would suggest you have DH handy in case you cant get up or down. Do not do anything that causes more pain.

  • I've had some horrible lower back pain that I attribute to carrying LO so low. I've found if I sit on the edge of the couch with the bottoms of my feet touching and let my knees fall to the sides while rocking helps. Especially when DH puts his fist behind my back and I can rock into it putting as much pressure as needed.

    Hope you find relief soon!

  • If you have what I experienced 2 months ago, it's not just "back pain" it's an injury. One day I stood up and halfway to standing, I couldn't move. Up or down. I was stuck and it hurt so bad! I went to the Chiropractor and she advised me to go to urgent care. (Since I am pregnant she didn't feel comfortable using her cool gadgits and stuff on me). The doctor gave me pain killers and muscle relaxers. After 5 days and not feeling better AT ALL, I went to a different doctor and she gave me a shot of prednisone. That made all the difference.

My advice- go to your doctor if it's not getting better or getting worse. No need to suffer.

  • Agree with gmed.  If your back keeps seizing up and the pain is very acute as opposed to an ache, it might be an injury instead of ordinary preg pains.  I had that this weekend but it cleared up with tylenol and a heating pad.  Call your doc and see what s/he says.
