Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Diapers

So I'm one of those crazy coupon ladies and I'm wondering what size diapers I should start stocking up on? I'm not sure how many of what size to get either? I would appreciate some advice on this from some moms who already have LOs and have been through this before.

Thanks!!

Re: Diapers

  • we have size newboorn zero through size 3. I figured that covered all possible sizes as a new baby and  some extras as she grows. (due in Jan.)

  • I did that!  I bought sizes 1 - 4 ( I stopped at 4 because  my best friends little girl (I am having a little girl) was potty trained while wearing size 4.  I figured I can gage her sizing and get size 5s later on if I think I will need them.  I bought all different brands (Pampers, Huggies, and Luvs) and types (Swaddlers, max dry, little movers... ect.).  I paid about half price for them...some a tad more and some a tad less.  Babies R Us had great diaper deals (should have called it steals lol) the summer.

I didn't stock up on newborn diapers because a lot of babies do not stay in them long.  I just did the Target giftcard deal (with high value coupons) and got 3 bags for $13.

Her closet is now full (about 2,700 diapers) and I don't have to worry about running out in the winter (due Jan 1st) to get more diapers.  Plus my SIL is having a baby in May so if I have left overs I can pass 'em to her.

Now I am working on wipes! :)

  • We had twins so we go through double the diapers but we went through about 7 bags of preemies--2 boxes and 4 bags of newborn and we are now on our 3rd box of size 1s.....i too was a couponer and bought WAY too many newborns but saved my receipts so we just exchanged them for size twos--- we clearly have too many size ones (I still have 3 boxes and 12 bags) but again I always saved the receipts so we'll just exchange up for size 2/3

I'd say save receipts---so you can exchange them. Also, people will buy you size one and size NB for shower gifts--so keep that in mind too.

  • We just switched from Nb to sz 1 yesterday. I had two 108 ct boxes and a 60 ct bag of Nb, and we have maybe 10 left. We'Ew starting with two 234 ct boxes and a 108 ct box of 1's. We didn't buy anything bigger than a sz 1 before she was born, but were gifted up to sz 2 in various brands. I'm hoping to switch to Costco diapers when we're out of all the pampers. I saved all the receipts too, since most stores will exchange sizes.

  • I would say to get a variety of sizes (1-3 mostly) and save receipts, like another person said. I stocked up on some (just when I found a really good deal)...we are still using newborn diapers, and they are still big on her, so we ended up having to buy some more of those (even after using several packs from the hospital) but that is not normal with most babies. We might end up with too many size 1s but we'll have to see - mainly because the diapers people bought us at our showers were size 1s.

Do some research before you decide what kind you want to buy. I do have a variety of Huggies and Pampers and a couple of Luvs because they were gifts. So far we haven't had a problem with Huggies or Pampers that we have used but some babies have sensitive skin so that is also something to consider.

  • I mainly bought 1s and 2s. Just wanted to say - I bought some wipes with coupons (Publix brand) and ended up hating them so that was a waste even with coupons. So just beware I guess!! Try googling or asking people what they think before buying stuff. On the other hand, I got a lot of huggies coupons and those have been great for us (diapers)!

  • I stocked up on way too many size 1's and will have to exchange about 400 for larger sizes.  DS is 8 weeks old and over 12 lbs... he stayed in NB's for about 4 weeks and size 1 for the next 4 weeks.  All depends on how fast your LO grows :)

  • DS is still in NB size and we seem to go through about 1 box of 76/week.  She's pretty small though (~9 lbs at 5 weeks).
