Trying to Get Pregnant

Just a random vent about KTFU!!!!!

It's hard for me to hear people say they want to get KU or what I really HATE is when people write KTFU! I want a child to add on to our little family. I don't take TTC for granted and becoming pregnant is something very special to me... I was ok with it before I had my miscarriage, but now it's something that I had and lost, and it made me realize just how important this was to me. Me and my DH talked for over a year about TTC and when to start. When we did start we thought it is probably gonna take a year or so. It happened after two months and we were soooo happy. Then it was taken away from us after only four weeks. Now we consider every moment a treasure.....

Re: Just a random vent about KTFU!!!!!

  • I'm confused as to what your point is.  Are you saying that people who use "KU" or "KTFU" are taking their pregnancy for granted?

How so?  How does saying I'm "knocked up" (which I'm not) harsh to anyone else?

  • I've had three losses. I still say KU. I wanted my babies more than anything in the world and didn't take a single moment with them for granted. You have every right to say you don't like it and to not say it yourself but please don't judge someone else if they do say it. You have no idea what they've gone through to get KU!

  • I'm still not understanding how saying KU/KUTF is harsh or offensive to others?

ETA: and are you meaning to imply that someone who uses those terms don't appreciate their pregnancies? 'cause I'll assure you right now after 20 months, needles, tests, surgery, u/s, and shots, I want a baby more than anything and I'll shout from the rooftops that I am finally pregnant in as many ways as I can....

Then I suggest you don't use it in reference to yourself. Other people have a right to use any term they want for themselves.

  • I don't ever say knocked up IRL because it just sounds.....crass.  It also sounds like a teenager who accidentally got pregnant in the backseat in a parking lot.  I only use the acronym KU here because, well I'm too lazy to actually type out the word for words that are used all the time here.

I also use BD, but I don't ever tell MH "hey let's go do the baby dance".  I also don't refer to him as dear husband, lol.

Then don't. For the record, I had a loss at 9 weeks and I still say KU. I think it's a little silly to get your undies in a twist over a phrase. If you don't like it, don't use it, but it's a bit of an over-reaction to make a whole post about how much it bothers you.

And for goodness sake, please. Use the "quote" button when you're replying directly to a comment.

ETA: I treasured every moment of my pregnancy. Both ultrasounds, the heartbeat, every ache and twinge. It was great. Just because I use the term KU, doesn't mean I didn't value my pregnancy as much as you.

  • I for one think a group of grown woman using the term baby dace in lieu of sex is absolutely ridicules but I?m not going to make a federal case against. There is a diffrence between online talk and IRL. I can see how saying I am knocked up might seem crass, but I also agree with PP being pregnant would be such a blessing how I will refer to it is the last thing am going to worry about.
  • Honestly, I see both sides.  It has a flippant tone about something that we all clearly treasure.  On the other hand, there's a language that's used on TB that for the most part, we don't use in our RL.  I don't take issue with anyone else saying KTFU but it's not for me...mostly for the F part.

  • LOL.

So people who use the term knocked up or knocked the frak up don't appreciate their pregnancies? If this bothers you that much - you might need to get your emotions in check. People can call it whatever they want when they get pregnant. Me personally, I'd love to get KTFU and stay KTFU, It'll take a lot of K'ing and F'ing though.

This is incredibly stupid. We aren't calling our phantom babies anything crass; we're calling the physical state of being pregnant by a silly nickname. And also, a baby is not a miracle. A miracle is something that happens outside of the realm of physical possibility. Babies are wonderful and incredible and a huge blessing, but not a miracle. Maybe I should start a thread about how much it totes bugs me when peeps use the word "miracle" to refer to something that isn't, hm?

This. The whole miracle is a little to "Gods plan" for me. Also if youre that uptight about being pregnant I can't imagine what you'll be like once your baby is here. I refer to my children as sh!t goose, chupacabra, monster, heiney, brat, crazy. Does that mean I take them for granted or does that only apply to unborn children?
