Real (pre-chopped, like at Home Depot). Love real trees. My parents got a fake when I was in high school and I vowed not to do that to my kids! Ha ha. I suspect when our kids are older we will get a fake but it's going to be awhile. I am very practical in a lot of ways but there are some things that are totally impractical that I love and real, dying from the moment you take them front the lot, Christmas trees with that amazing smell, are one of them.
Fake. I am allergic to all evergreen type trees. Plus I see it as a lot of work to go pick one out, haul it home every winter, clean up all the needles, make sure it has water. My fake I pull out of the box and it's pre lit. It's easy and cheap plus no hives for me lol. 2 hours if that and I'm done
Growing up we mainly had real trees. DS and I have had a real tree once, but now have a fake tree. I prefer real trees (though our fake one is very lovely), but we have a fake one because our past few homes have all been rentals, and most rentals dont allow real trees as they're a fire hazard. I'm looking forward to the day we start getting real ones.
Always real. I would rather not have a tree than have a fake one. I can't explain it, fake trees just make me sad
It really isn't a lot of work. It's fun to go pick it out and the place wraps it and attaches it to the car. H and I can have it up, secured and ready to be decorated in about 5 minutes. With 2 LO's, I am sweeping something up every day, so cleaning up some needles is not a big deal
Growing up we always had a fake one. Actually, the same fake one- for 25 years. My mom finally got a new one in 1997, she's replaced that one once since then. So my parents are on their 3rd tree.
We got one the year it was our turn to host the big family gathering, but I sold it over the summer. We hadn't put it up in 2 years. DH's family is in NJ so we try to go up there either every other year or at least every 3rd year. And when we aren't traveling there we go to my parents house and then to whereever the big family gathering is. I won't have another turn at hosting for at least 5 more years.
We have 3 cats and now with the kids- I just don't want to deal with keeping them away from it.
We don't do Santa either, so its not so big of a deal to us. (I know, we are horrible)
Dh's parents always do the real tree. MIL was appalled and disgusted (seriously!) when I told her I grew up with a fake tree and was going to have one too.
MIL waits until Christmas eve to go buy a tree and out it up (so its discounted) So it usually looks like a Charlie Brown tree. Plus they use those really huge lights (looks like the ones you suppose to use outside) and God forbid if 2 of the same colors are too close.
I have issues with the way ILs do Christmas too- but that's for another post. lol.
We do both. The artifial one goes up earlier and is out family tree. We wait for a ton of snow to cut down a real tree closer to Christmas. It's all about the experience.
I am Turkey Lurkey...
b/c it sounded better than Cocky-Locky.
Real. I would rather do no tree than a fake tree. Fake just seems so....sad and, fake (obviously). Plus, they are terrible for the environment (in terms of carbon footprint and the fact that you can't recycle them at all....they are mostly petroleum product based). Plus, I think there is such joy in going to get your tree...we bring thermoses of hot cocoa, spend a long time picking it out, get it strapped to our car, etc. It is one of my favorite Christmas time memories from being a kid. Pulling a fake tree up from the basement just doesn't quite have that magic holiday feeling, you know?

I am lucky to remember to give my cats water some days.
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AMEN!
For us it has always been real. But the more kids I get and the older I get I'm like Stacy's quote up there and said screw it. We are going today to invest in an awesomely expensive yet very beautiful Martha Stewart Tree and in a couple of years it would have paid for itself. 9ft live trees are wicked expensive.
Growing up, we always had real trees. As an adult in my own home, I have only and will only ever have a real tree. I hate fake Christmas trees. Always have. I just think a real tree looks so much better and it makes the house smell great. Sure, the needles can be a PITA, but it's nothing that 30 seconds with the vacuum cleaner can't handle.
The first Christmas after we were married, DH asked if we could get a fake tree. I told him that was grounds for divorce in my book.
Artificial. It's just easier. I can put it up when I want and don't have to worry about watering it. Plus I know it will support my ornaments without an issue. I have 300+ with my childhood ones, the kids each get one every year, I collect some Hallmark ones, MIL went through an ornament giving phase etc.
The first year DH and I were together we bought a real tree. We went to the lot and picked out this cute, perfect tree. We got home, put it up.....and it was shorter than me (I'm 5'3"), lol! It also couldn't hold any of my (then around 40-50) ornaments. We affectionately refer to that one as our "Charlie Brown" tree:)
When I lived alone, I always put up a fake one just because it was easy being single to not have to mess with a live one. We've now gotten a real one the past 3 years from Home Depot. When the kids are older, we'll go to a farm and get one because I have great memories of doing that when I was younger, but for now they are cheaper and easier at Home Depot.

We have a fake tree because we go out of town for around 10 days at Christmas and it's a fire hazard to leave an unattended cut tree in our home. Also, our cat eats the needles and throws up all over the place. The cat still eats some of the fake tree needles, but not as many as the year we tried a real tree (we were staying in town that year).
I always had a real tree growing up! I loved it. We always picked it out/cut it down ourselves too. I love the smell and carrying on that tradition (even though my parents have a 20 foot fake one now!)

Re: (Poll) Christmas tree: real or artificial?
Sadly fake.
DH is a real tree party pooper. Being artificial makes it less maintenance and less mess by definition. That is good for him.
But it doesn't smell and there is no trek to the tree farm. ::big sad sigh::
It is just so ... convenient and economical... to have a fake tree. I wish we weren't using those attributes for our Christmas tree criteria.
We have "artificial" - I WANT REAL! Some day, we will again have real.
I know!!!
Oh God!!
Ha. It's funny how this little thing seems important to me. Your husband is probably a smart cookie though.

My parents always had a real tree. We would suit up and hike into the farm to cut down our own tree year after year. That was too much for me.
However, now there's nothing like the smell of Evergreen in our house during the holidays!
Fake and I am A-ok with that.
I am lucky to remember to give my cats water some days.

Fake and I prefer it that way. It's how I grew up and there's just something about pulling out a tree you've had for a long time........
We put our tree up weekend after Thanksgiving until Jan. 7th.....
