OPK and IUI scheduling-wwyd?

Hi ladies,

My RE's office has me use digital OPK's to time our IUI's when using Clomid.  I test at 12:30 every day.  So today, negative at 12:30.  Then I got overly anxious and tested again at 9:30 tonight: smiley face.  So, what would you do?  I should O in 24-36 hours from the surge, which I suppose started sometime this afternoon.  Would you request the IUI for as late in the day as possible tomorrow, or as early as possible Saturday?  I'm leaning toward Saturday because, if I'd followed directions Confused then I wouldn't have had a positive until noon tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving, and TIA!

Re: OPK and IUI scheduling-wwyd?

  • Hmmm.. I would guess sooner rather than later if you already got a smiley (even if funny timing), but I haven't had an IUI yet, so I'm not sure of protocol.  I'll be interested in the answers you get here too!  GL!

  • You go from your LH surge, so ifyou OPK was postive at 9:30pm you'd be fine to do either. I alway test twice a day, on advice from my doctor. I also think this works  because an LH surge can happen any time during that day and you don't want to miss is. And I work nights so sometimes that throws it off.

Don't worry about 'following directions'. You could have actually missed it if you didn't test. Just beacuse your OPK smiled tonight, does not mean there will be enough LH in your urine by tomorrow at noon. Go with your gut!

  • From what I understand, since sperm live longer than the egg and can hang out in your fallopian tubes for days, it's better to be early with the IUI than late.  Personally I'd go in late today.  Good luck!

  • Well, I'm not super excited about this...but my RE has us coming in this morning for the IUI.  I think it's too early.....but they are on a limited schedule today, and didn't want to wait until tomorrow, since I got the positive last night.  So, fingers crossed!!!
