Bringing Boppy Pillow to the Hospital?

A poster on the December 2011 board just asked who was planning on bringing a Boppy pillow to the hospital. That got me wondering this: can you even use a Boppy right after having a c-section or is it too uncomfortable? I'm a FTM, so excuse my ignorance.

Re: Bringing Boppy Pillow to the Hospital?

  • I brought mine & was glad I did. I had my c/s at 11:45 pm and didn't use it during the first few feedings during the night or early in the morning. I sent DH to the car to grab it when he went to grab lunch and used it in the afternoon and it didn't bother my incision and was much more comfortable than shuffling pillows around.

  • I used it for the baby (not nursing), he laid in it in my lap. We held him 95% of the time of course, but there were times it was nice to just look at him, and it was the perfect positioner!

I can't even remember what I used for nursing, LOL. Regular pillows?

  • I didn't. My mom went home and got it. It was helpful when sitting and nursing.

  • I used mine. I found that it was easier to just stuff the squishy hospital pillows around me for nursing, though. I used the boppy to nurse when I sat in a chair.

  • I agree with everyone, bring it. It was great while I was in the hospital. Really, you will be happy you have it.

  • I brought it and it was okay. I was glad I had it, but it kinda got in the way. I ended up having to almost always use the football hold while in the hospital and didn't use the boppy very much.

  • I would bring the boppy and a pillow. If it hurts your stomach to use the boppy you could always use a pillow to support baby. I used a pillow for a few months and then the boppy but i think only because i just assumed a pillow would be better than the boppy-so try both!

  • it was so helpful to have! I'm sure it is for non c/s moms also.

  • Yes and it was really nice to have.  I just had a c-section and didn't initially bring it to the hospital, so I had my mom bring it when she came.  DD also spent a few days in the NICU and it was awesome to have while feeding her.  It didn't bother my incision, and actually was much more comfortable than just holding her or trying to prop other pillows around.

  • I used a my breast friend pillow for nursing. Much better than a boppy and I positioned it higher on my abdomen not to bother my incision.
  • Bring the boppy - great idea! My first birth, I brought my own pillows and my favorite pillowcases. It made me so much more comfortable during the 20 hours of labor and recovery. They also perked up the photos.

    Hospital pillows are pretty uncomfy.
