really dumb bedding ?

our mattress finally came today after some drama. i went to put the mattress pad that i got for dirt cheap at a consignment sale on and it doesn't fit well at all. i go to put the one on that's just a pad, no sides, and it's too wide.

we have a standard size carter's crib. standard mattress. WTH?

which one is better? one with fitted sides or one with no sides? i need to go register for one now... ugh. should the one with no sides be able to go over the long sides of the mattress? our mattress is really snug, i don't want to make it tighter than it already is for ease of changing sheets in the middle of the night.

  • After trying all kinds of fancy crib pads we ended up liking those white flannel waterproof pads the best. I don't remember the brand, but they have them at BRU (they're not specifically for cribs). The bigger size fits well under a crib sheet and is so much easier to change.

Just be sure not to get the quilted kind, they are junk and wetness just rolls right off.

Keep that other one around though, it'll be handy later if you want to give LO some diaper free floor time.

  • I got a standard mattress and mattress pad at Wal-mart. They both fit great so you could try a Wal-mart one. I think I got a Sealy Snugfit for like 15 dollars and if it doesn't work take it back.

  • The thing I don't like about crib mattress pads and sheets is that they shrink so much that they really don't fit the mattress after only a couple of washes.  That's likely what the problem is with the one you got on consignment.

  • I have 2 of the Carter's waterproof mattress pads. Both have been washed and dried and still fit on the mattress snugly.
