Babies: 3 - 6 Months

When goes from 4 to 3 naps?

If your LO was consistently taking 4 naps when they were younger, when did they transition to 3 and which ones were dropped/consolidated?

Re: When goes from 4 to 3 naps?

  • We switched from 4 naps to 3 right around 4 months. He finally started taking longer naps (1.5-2 hours), so 3 is all he needs now.  The morning nap went from 45 minutes to 1+ hours , so it pushed the afternoon nap back a little, and then the afternoon nap went from 45 minutes to 1.5-2 hours. This got us all the way to the evening nap, which is still 45 minutes, but that's plenty long for the 3rd nap.

  • I've read that at 3 months they should be taking (3) 1.5-2 hour naps.  And at 6 months it drops to (2) 1.5-2 hour naps.  But really I'll take any nap I can get him to take!

That's if you have one of those textbook perfect babies, but really, how many of us have one of those? I am also happy for any naps I can get, but I tell ya what - these longer naps are AWESOME! I wish I could take credit for them, but he just started them on his own. Some days we still get 4 shorter naps, but for the most part we get at least one long nap, usually starting around noon.
