Yes. As I went to college as my Dad's second wife (aka the Evil Step Momster) moved in. My family completely changed while I was away at school and I never really felt at home again.

This, to the point that it's creepy. Except I was 19, it was after 1st year University.
No, I went to college, but got an apartment right after Freshman year with friends. It was the norm where I lived/started college since the COL was really low. I was also always very independent, so it was ideal.
I was the 3rd child, so my parents were actually pretty happy with having the house to themselves!

I'm sorry you had this happen too. I swear, I went home for Christmas break and didn't know where the freaking spoons were, so much changed. They moved after my first year and didn't make a room for me at the new house. That was the end of that.

I moved out when I went to college. I got my own apartment. My parents did not (and couldn't) pay for college. I had loans for school and some scholarships and worked full time while in college to pay for my living expenses, which included rent, a car payment and insurance, utilities, food, gas and any partying I wanted to do. I was on their health insurance until 22 though.
I also moved out to go to school but I came home on breaks every year and moved back home for couple of years after graduating. It was free and life was good at home. They weren't very strict and I was a pretty good teen/college aged kid.
I was wondering about those who didn't go to college and just left at 18 because they were an "adult".

Ok, I got it. I came home for breaks as well, but ended up moving across the country for grad school immediately following undergrand, met DH, and the rest is history. : )
Sadly, I knew of some classmates in high school who were told they were on their own as soon as they graduated. : (
I didn't move out at 18 (or 17 when I graduated). DH moved out the week after graduation - since his mom bought him a bus ticket to big D, gave him a couple hundred bucks, and told him to pack his shiit up.

my family was in a transition state, to put it mildly. I left to go to college at 17 but never really went back because it didn't feel like home after that. Family life wasn't bad though.
I also went to college 45 minutes away from where my mom lives, so home was just a little too close for me.
I moved out at 19 because my family is NUTS! I was working full time and paying rent and they "kicked" me out of my bedroom, packed up my *** and forced me to "live" in their living room and gave my bedroom to my sister. All for staying at my boyfriends house (I was 18 almost 19, paying rent, working and supporting myself).

If you moved out right at 18, did you do so because your family life was in the sh!t?
Yeah. I could not STAND my mother (still can't). I thought if I stayed I would probably kill her. She was (and still is) an alcoholic and when she's sober she's so nice but when she's drunk she's the nastiest biitch I know.
I felt bad leaving my little brother all alone with her but she was always nicer to him anyway.
She's only been nice to me since I had DD.

I didn't actually move out (meaning, didn't come home in the summers from college) until I was 22. After graduation from college, I moved 1200 miles away with DH (BF at the time). I haven't lived at home since.

this was me. on my own once I graduated. my home life sucked. I graduated 06/09/07 and was married and living with my DH on 07/07/07. I was 18 and my DH was 21. My husband bought our first house 3 months before we were married. I went to community college which we paid for. Now happily married 4.5 years.. Have a 2 yr old son and currently TTC#2. We just closed on our 2nd home in June of this year. Life is good!
I always like seeing replies to these questions and hope no one was offended by me asking. It's interesting to see how family life and situations are so different. For me, I couldn't imagine being asked to leave my house and this didn't happen to any of my friends. I also grew up with an almost 100% population of Italian Catholics where family life was important and secure. I didn't know anyone who was raised in a strict religious family and needed to get out.

Mikaela is going to have a little brother!
I moved 8 hours away to go to college 4 months before I turned 18. It was awesome - I really craved freedom. I did come home for 2 summers.
My home life was not sh!t at all - it was actually kinda hard to leave. I was just bored and ready for an adventure.
