yeah I think visually Margo is nicer. I live in the south and I find people mispronounce a lot of names with extra letters haha. I think I would like to make it easier. Our kids would be Finn, Eva and Margo (if its a girl) I think they sound cute.

  • I love Margot! and I have to admit that I wuld side eye no "T" on the end!

Don't change a perfectly good name because people are too dumb to figure out the right way to say it.

it is an actual spelling without the t, I think people are used to seeing the t though.

  • I much prefer the "t" on the end. Beautiful name.

  • I prefer it without the "t". It looks like maggot to me with the "t".
  • Margot IMO is best - everyone should be familiar with it - The Diary of Anne Frank is on most middle school reading lists.

I was thinking the same. Margo is pretty too.

  • I think Margo would be fine. And you're not screwing the name up by use that spelling. Contrary to what others are saying, Margo is a legit English variant of this name.

  • Did you ever read the Sweet Valley High books? Remember the insane plot line where an evil doppleganger was trying to kill one of the twins so she could take over her perfect life? https://1bruce1.livejournal.com/60238.html

Her name was Margo. So, whenever I meet a little kid named Margo, my first thought is "OMG, her parents named her after a crazy evil Wakefield doppleganger twin!" (because you KNOW the evil doppleganger had her OWN twin who later popped up and caused more trouble).

Moral of the story, pick Margot! I think it looks more refined and 'complete' as a name anyway.

  • I think it's fine either way. Although, Margo looks more like a nickname, while Margot looks complete.

  • None of the legit spellings of Margot are weird. I'd go with the one you both can agree on, which seems to be Margo.

  • I like it with the t personally. I think names that end in O tend to look weird imo.

These are the only two spellings that look right to me too. Go with what works for you though! It's a beautiful name, regardless!

That's how it was spelled on Punky Brewster, lol.. I dunno why I remember that. The blonde snobby girl.

    Myself, I prefer Margo.

  • I like Margo better.  Margot looks like it's pronounced like 'Mar-got' even though I know it isn't pronounced that way...it's just a hiccup that I can't get past.
  • I prefer Margot, but both versions are lovely.

Ill offer professional advice on this one. My name is Margot. People are stupid. They call me Mar-got. Or Spell my name Margo because the "t" makes their eyes spin and their brain go numb . If you want your daughter to realize early in life that the general public is moronic... Go with Margot. If you want her to figure that out later in life... Go with Margo.

  • I have a friend named Margaux, I think it is such a beautiful spelling.  Maybe it is what I am used to, but I think it is so much prettier than Margo or Margot.  I also like PPs spelling, Margeaux.

  • Margot is my vote. Of course, it's my grandma's name, so I'm biased. I do remember growing up that I was aware the T was silent, but I got over it pretty quickly and never thought about it again.

Many people have names that people can't pronounce. Even something as simple as Eva, Meagan, or Andrea can be pronounced different ways. Most people will get over it, and those that can't probably won't matter much to your daughter anyway.

  • It's my understanding "Margo" is a nn for Margaret.  But I could be totally wrong.  If you wanted her name to be that, I'd go with Margot or Margaux.

  • Margot is the traditional french spelling, so it looks more elegant and complete to me than Margo.
