My husband and I really want a front facing baby carrier but I don?t know which one is the best. We were planning on getting a baby bjorn but some people have suggested that they are not good for the baby. I?ve heard of Beco but I don?t know much about their product or maybe Britax?? Somebody please help! I know that the Ergo is great but I really want a front facing carrier. Suggestions anyone???
Re: Help with front facing carrier
Really you should go over to the AP board and ask over there. There really isn't a good front facing carrier for babies (unless they are on your back).
For a great carrier that will last a long time, I would suggest looking into an Ergo.
I'm a FTM but we bought an Infantino Flip. You can wear them front (facing in or out, or as a backpack).
I read a lot of reviews and they were very favorable for this carrier.
I read an article somewhere that said some babies just hate them no matter what kind you get so we didn't want to spend the ridiculous price for a Baby Bjorn.
I wanted to have one for sure though for post-natal exercise (the class I am planning to take they do a lot with baby in a carrier).
What is the AP board? I posted on the nurseries and Baby Gear board and I didn't really get any responses.
You will love your Ergo and you got a steal of a deal!!! I can still use my Ergo for my almost 3 year old!
Why is forward facing so imoprtant to you?
My son was never a fan of facing out. DH had a Jeep carrier, but we didn't use it often. I used a Moby for the first 5ish months and then we invested in an Ergo. I wish I had bought it sooner. DS liked to snuggle and often was over stimulated by facing out.
Agreed. Forward facing is bad for your back and their hips, but there are some somewhat better than the Bjorn. Hopefully they can help you there. DD has always been fine carried on my back when she wants to see more.
Yes, I'm really excited about it!!
another ergo lover here.
avoid getting a carrier that can only be used in the forward facing function. babies can be over stimulated very easily, and it can be traumatic for them if they are strapped to you in a forward facing carrier and unable to turn their heads and shield themselves from stimulation.
the ergo is great in that you can use it to 40 pounds, and on your front when they are smaller, and on your back (where they can see) when they get a tad older.

I'm getting the Ergo. I've had two friends, very different (one preppy SAHM in a very wealthy community and the other a crunchy granola in a commune-type) both swear by the Ergo.
Babies should not be facing forward all the time because, like other posters have said, the stimulation can be too much. The Ergo is good because they can see the outside but also hide away from it all. You can also breastfeed while wearing the Ergo, which I think is a huge bonus.
