Tory?

I like the name Tory, as in Tory Burch. Not a fan of Tori, though (despise the actress Tori Spelling, which is partially to blame :)

In researching this name, I came across two things that have me slightly concerned... one, it's typically a nickname for Victoria, which I don't mind, though I worry that would invoke the Tori spelling. And two, that the Tory is the nickname of the conservative party in the UK.

Thoughts?

Re: Tory?

  • My cousin is dating a Tori. She's really pretty if that helps. (lol). I like Tory on it's own, too

  • I think Victoria is beautiful and could have Tory as a nickname. I don't think too many Americans will make the political party reference you mentioned.

    I agree with this.

  • I thought Tory and Whig when I first looked at it. I prefer it spelled Tori. I have a friend with a little girl named Tori (not a nn) so that's probably why I have that preference.

  • I immediately thought of all the references you hit in your OP.  Tory Burch (conspicuous consumption fashion), Tori Spelling (eww), and Tory the British conservative party.
  • I like the name Tori on its own not as a nickname for anything. I like the i spelling best but that maybe because the Tori I know spells it like that.

  • I like Tory by itself. My Goddaughters name is Victoria, but we call her Vicky...so the nickname isnt always what you want it to be....i tried to get her nickname to be Tory/Tori but Vicky is what stuck. lol
  • The only Tory I knew was male.  I like Tori better for a girl and think it could stand alone.

  • I'm from Canada and we have a Tory party too...spelled with a 'y', that's the first thing I associate it with, and it's a strong negative association, sorry! I like it a lot better spelled Tori.

  • I really like the name Tori.  Spelling Tori/Tory either way is fine by me.  I knew a Tori in high school and always liked the name.
