Baby laundry detergent

What's everyone using to wash baby clothes?

I get weird allergic reactions to regular stuff, so I have to use Tide Free or Seventh Generation for my clothes. Is that fine for baby, too, or do I need to buy something else? We're getting our dresser any day now, and I want to start washing baby clothes and storing them properly.

TIA!

  • As long as it is the free you are fine. We use costco's free brand. Our little man doesn't have a problem and hopefully LO won't either.

  • I use All Free & Clear which I'm told is actually gentlier than Dreft or other baby detergent.  No actual experience yet though since I'm a FTM.  Hopefully that works fine for the babies' clothes too.
    Natural BFP - 2/13/10, Natural M/C - 3/9/10 (Missed m/c found at 8wks 4days) Prenatal B/W shows I'm a Beta Thal carrier & so is DH. Onto IVF w/PGD... Jan 2011 - IVF #1 - C/P Mar 2011 - IVF #2 - Day 5 PGD, no ET, 5 snow babies May 2011 - FET #1 - BFP!! Twins!!! 2/9/12 - Our precious miracles arrived! Baby A 7lbs 13oz & Baby B 5lbs 13oz
  • I am planning to use one of the "free and clear" types to avoid irritation.  However, if pressed or I run out, I will use regular and do a double rinse.

From what I have read Dreft is a waste of money.

Oh, I also read that if you have very hard water you should double rinse and that powder detergent leaves more residue than liquid (this was in this week's Lucie's List update, subscribe if you don't already, lost of great tips in there! https://www.lucieslist.com/ )

  • Stick with what you've been using.

We bought Dreft for DS and I thought it smelled awful and left a weird residue on his clothes.  I switched him to a Free and Clear detergent and then to our homemade stuff around 9 months.  I plan on starting out with our homemade this time.  It's unscented and very mild.

  • We currently use Cheer Free and Clear and that's what we plan to use for the baby's things as well.

  • We just used the free and clear brand from Costco that we normally use and it worked just fine.

  • I use dreft for baby items.  It's similar in price to the other fee detergents and you can find coupons to make it reasonable.  However the detergents you have should work fine as well.

  • An amazing line of house products is Mrs. Meyers. I already bought myself some of their Baby Blossom Laundry Detergent because all their products are made of natural ingredients (their baby detergent is 97% natural) and are really good for sensitive skin. I use their laundry detergent for my own clothes and their cleaning products are a God-send to work with. No harsh chemicals and extremely safe to use while pregnant and with newborns. I highly recommend them!!

  • We're using the Ecos brand of laundry detergent and get it at Sams for a awesome price. It leaves our clothes super soft, doesn't fade or cause any static clean, but I miss the fact that my clothes don't have that "smell" to them. I'm hoping that LO can use this too or else I'll get the clear and free version..

You should be fine using this....I mean, depends on the baby, of course, but we buy it at Costco and have had no issues with DD, and she has really sensitive skin. It's all ph-neutral, all-natural, gentle and no chemicals and junk. I like it a lot, but as you say, I miss the smell of some of the old detergents we used to use!

  • I'm just sticking to what I've been using - pretty much anything that is on sale which is free of dyes and perfumes.

I honestly never gave it much thought. The way I figure, my mom used regular detergent when I was a baby, and I didn't mutate...
