Re: Poll: Have you started solids?

  • I started solids just over a week ago but my son is 6 months so much older than yours.  He was completely uninterested at your LO's age.

  • Nope, haven't even considered it.  Nikolai just doesn't seem ready.  He shows little to no interest in our food, he is barely sitting unsupported.  Really it's just balancing until he topples.  We weren't planning on starting until 6 months anyway so it's just as well.

  • We tried around 5 months and LOs belly did not react well. We tried bananas the other day and it's going well! She will be 6 months old on 11/30.

  • He seemed so interested at 4 months that I started then, but he wasn't ready. I took 2 weeks off, now I give him some every weekend, but just to see if he swallows and stops making the horrible faces! Pears went pretty well this weekend, though. Maybe around Christmas he'll be eating them every day.

  • I voted yes, not interested, but I want to point out that we just started last night Smile.  He was not a fan of his carrots, but I think today I'll thin them out with some BM.

ETA: I do want to point out that Ty has been showing a lot of interest in our food.  Last week alone he grabbed food out of my hand three times while I was snacking and holding him.  He managed to get 2  string cheeses in to his mouth before I could snag them back.  Thankfully I was able to get the pepperoni from my pizza out of his grip on Saturday!

  • LO has been eating solids for about a month now. She loves it! She gets all excited when I put a bib on her. She also tries to eat/drink my food if I am carring her. I pretty sure if she could she would eat all day! ;)

  • DD has been showing extreme interest in what I'm eating for a few weeks now.  We'll be starting on Thanksgiving with some sweet potatoes & go from there.  I have given her a teeny tiny taste of my ice cream (which she loved) and I've given her a few sips of my water here and there.

  • i voted SS: J has been on oatmeal for a month. he's grabbing at our food and will yell at us while we eat if we don't give him a spoon to practice. we're starting sweet pot on thanksgiving and really hope he's good with it!

Lol- no one messes with a mama bear's pizza!

We started less than a week ago.  Maya has taken to it really well- I'd read so much on this board about LO's not really swallowing much at first but M is eating whatever I give her.  She had avocado for 4 days and we moved onto carrots last night- she ate 1 oz of carrots (with BM) earlier today and probably would have eaten a second oz if I'd had it defrosted.

I actually would have waited a little longer but DH was really pushing for it.

  • Avery loves food! He has been on them for about 3 weeks. I had every intention in waiting until 6 months, but he was ready. He was grabbing out food and putting it in his mouth, he sits unsupported, and needed something more. He eats 2xs a day right now and would love to eat all the time if we let him. He screams in between bites if we dont feed him fast enough...

  • I voted SS because we give DD cereal on occasion. She is a horrible sleeper so our pedi suggested giving her some at her last feeding before bed...it hasnt been helping her sleep at all so I never give it to her the nights I don't work. But DH still puts some in her bottle the nights I do work. So she's had rice cereal at her last feeding a few nights a week. I wouldn't consider her on solids.

  • We started right at 6 months w/BLW.  She has gotten some food in her mouth, made a face, and pushed it back out.  She has yet to ingest anything, I think.

This is us too! Although she was cracking me up yesterday, she had her head cocked to the side watching me eat and mimicking me chewing!

  • LO is showing pretty much all the signs, but we are waiting until 6 months per my research and medical advice.

We are going to give her some food to play with on Thanksgiving, but I don't expect her to necessarily eat it. We won't offer routinely until 6 months. She's doing just fine without them :)

  • We started solids kind of, he has tried banana, pear, mashed potatoes and carrots.   We are doing baby lead weaning solids, where baby has to pick up the food and feed himself!  Its a start, Jacob plays more than anything else.

  • SS. I've given her samples of several foods - banana, apple, avocado, peas and bread- but we aren't regularly feeding them and she hasn't had more than a bite. She's ready, but I'm waiting until we can do blw.

  • I voted SS.   We tried some purees but he's not interested/not ready so we stopped and will try again in a few weeks.

I'm thinking we might wind up doing a bit of BLW with him.  He did enjoy gumming a very well steamed baby carrot.   He didn't eat it and used it more as a teething toy but he seemed to like it.

  • We have been doing cereal once every 3 days since she was 4 months. We just got home from her 6mo check up and we plan to start some veggies tonight.

Lol! This exactly! She will eat an entire serving in one sitting. She wants it quickly too. If you aren't fast enough, she will make a funny noise until you put it in her mouth.

  • DD will be 6 months in 3 days and we started recently. She is very un interested even now.
  • We've been doing it for two weeks now (when he was 4 months, 1 week). He hasn't spit out a single bite. He loves anything we put on a spoon in front of him, and opens his mouth for the next bite. It's earlier than most, but when he takes to it so well, how can you doubt it?

same here. We started her on solids around 4 1/2 months per our pedi's instructions and she ate like champ from day 1.

  • We started introducing them right after her 4-month appointment at the ped's recommendation.  Until the last week or two, she hasnt really had much interest in them.  Now, with bananas and applesauce in particular, you cannot get the spoon to her mouth fast enough.  And she HATES peas and carrots.

Yep!  This is us, too.  Started solids just before 5 months and haven't looked back.  He made a face the first few times he had apples, but other than that he's eaten everything I've given him like a champ.

This- exactly word-for-word (including the icecream part!) DD is almost sitting completely unassisted. I was going to wait until 6 months, but she grabs everything off my plate that she can, and continually grabs my silverware and cups. And she lost her tongue-thrust reflex. I think she is ready for Thanksgiving.

  • We're going to start solids next month when DD hits the 6 month mark. She's EBF for now and then we'll slowly add solids in.

  • We added rice cereal to their bottles when they were very small because of reflux. They were miserable. They were just too immature to digest it.

We tried again when the girls were six months old, and they were not plagued by gas or constipation. It was a much better experience.

  • we started cereal about a month ago(it was the only way I could get her to take her vitamin D drops)...but veggies and fruit were only introduced last week...she shows a lot of interest in us eating and even before cereal she would take a baby spoon and put it in her mouth while we had supper.  She is loving eating and in her case *knock on wood* it seems to be helping her tummy issues (she's less gassy)

  • DS was fascinated by watching me eat oatmeal, so for fun I tried giving him rice cereal yesterday.  He LOVED it and ate 2 bowls.  He kept screaming at me every time I took the spoon away so I could scoop more.  DH called him "Hitler in a high chair" lol.  I will probably wait until 6 months to give him solids daily.  I think I'll just do every few days for now.  Ill also probably give him some sweet potatoes on Thanksgiving.
