Parenting after a Loss

Parenting FAIL!! ...for realz, I suck! (pump and dump question)

Oh my gosh!  I am so ashamed of myself.  I failed BIG time as a mom last night.  We had a thing with dh's work and I may have had a little too much fun (I'm talking a beer and five vodka/crans too much..enough to leave me with a headache this morning).  How much does one need to pump and dump after a night of too many cocktails??

  • No pumping and dumping required. Once the alcohol leaves your bloodstream, it leaves your milk as well.

    Sounds like a fun time!

  • You should be fine now. I believe its okay if you no longer feel drunk, I've also heard a 2 hour per drink rule. So after 12 hours you should be fine.

As for dumping previously pumped milk, for some reason I though I read recently that if you put it in the fridge the alcohol content will go away (not sure if I'd trust that though).

I'm pretty sure according to kellymom, that's not true.

But ditto everyone else that you should be fine now.  A headache is just dehydration.  If you are still feeling drunk, that's a different story, lol. :)

  • I wouldn't dump. Now if you pumped right after you got home, I would dump that.

Nope, this is a myth. There's nothing about refrigeration that breaks down the alcohol. As your body metabolizes the alcohol though and as it leaves your system, so too does it leave your milk.

  • Whatever you pumped while you were sober enough to drive is aok! Whatever you pumped as you were telling someone "omg you're the greatest I loooive you because you have such pretty hair!" is probably not ok. ESP if the person in question is bald.
