is it too soon to tell??? Riley pretty much does everything with her left hand...every once in awhile she'll surprise me and grab with her right. I'm wondering if its too soon to tell for sure that she's going to be left handed...I'm left handed, so she could be.

My 2 year old is still rather ambidextorious. So I would say its deffinatly too soon to tell.
By the way....what hand you use dominantly is not genetic. Both of my parents were left handed and my sister and I are both right handed. So it wasn't even influenced by them (being left handed) teaching us to write!
This. When they get older you can test things to determine their dominant hand if it isn't clear. We have OTs at work help us determine it with some of the kids (most being 3-6 year old kids with Autism) who it doesn't seem clear so we can best prompt and guide their teaching.

Hmm, we have really watched A and she doesn't show to be more dominant in either. Is there anything I can look for at home?

How could it not be genetic? It's not environmental... it's probably just more complex than something like eye color, but someone correct me if they know more about the science of this!
Oh, and my LO is pretty clearly a righty. She favors it and has been developmentally ahead on that side. We'll see if that changes over time!
My dad has a theory, now this is just a small time pastor's theory on something that he knows nothing about. (he has an infinante wealth of useless knowledge though...)
Anywho he thinks that being left handed or right handed has to do with with child birth. It is in his opinion that leftys tend to be first born, and that it has something to do with the birth canal.
Yeah he should really get a grant for that

My LO was born with her hand up by her face. But I'm not sure which hand. Will that be the dominant one?
That theory on first born would work for my father since he was the first of 6 but my mother was the 6th and last child in her family.
I only say it isn't genetic because I asked my college genetics proffessor (alright he was a Dr) how both my parents were left handed and my sister and I are right handed and he said that it had nothing to do with genetics. He said it was just a fluke.
