So, I am probably going to be induced Monday. I hadn't really thought much about an induction, and I was wondering if any of you had any induction experiences/advice you could share?
I was hoping to have a natural delivery, but I don't know if that's an unrealistic expectation now? Also, I'm concerned that it may lead to a c-section, but maybe that doesn't happen as often as I think?
Please share your wisdom with me! :)d
Re: induction experiences?
I was induced with my DD. I had to be at the hospital at 6am and they started the antibiotics and pitocin right away. I was about 50% effaced and 2-3 cm (and had been for a couple weeks).
Got my epi around 10;30/11. My advice would be to ask for it just before you think you really need it, as it could take the anesthesiologist awhile to get to you, if they are in a csection or something.
I was ready to start pushing at 4pm. My DD was delivered just before 7pm.
I wanted a natural labor and was induced as well. I was super nervous about it, but it went amazingly well.
When I went in I was 2-3 cm and 80% effaced. My OB knew I didn't want a lot of interventions, but I needed the induction - so she started my breaking my water. I labored w/out much pain for 3 hrs and dilated to 4cm. Then they started the Pitocin drip. Four hours later I gave birth vaginally - I made it through without an epi or any other meds besides the Pitocin. I pushed for less than an hour.
Good luck!!
Forgot to address your c-section question. Have you made any progress on your own? If you haven't, there is an elevated risk of a c-section, because your body just isn't going into labor on it's own, and the pitocin may not help it at all. If you've progressed even a bit, the risk/percentage goes down according to my doctor, but of course it's still a possibility. Don't stress about it...however the baby comes, if it's healthy and safe that's all that matters!
Good luck!
On march 8 (my due date) I had to be induced b/c of low fluid. My cervix was only soft, and nothing else. So we would be starting from "scratch'. They put a balloon in to open my cervix, 6 hours later I was 2 1/2 cm and they broke my water. My only problem was that LO did not like the piticon when the contractions got to close together. I ended up stalling at around 8 cm. Then had a c/s because LO's heart rate would drop whenever they would up the piticon (sp). But I have heard of many positive outcomes with inductions. My body wasn't ready (and neither was LO).... that's what I think. GL
and mine is just one case...
I've been 70% effaced, 1 cm dilated for 2 weeks.

I also wanted a natural labor but was induced (36w6d due to pre-e). I was bummed about having to be induced but the induction itself was fine... I didn't even have an epi until they started talking about c-section. I only took it then in case I had to have a c-section so I wouldn't need to be put under. I labored pain med-free for 20 plus hours on pit. I did end up with a c-section but it was for other reasons not related to the induction.
*Edited for missing word
I was induced at 41 weeks. I was 1 cm and 50% effaced. My induction was long (30+ hours), but it was successful. They tried to ripen my cervix for 18 hours but I only dilated to 3 centimeters. Eventually they broke my water, which started regular contractions, but after 4 hours I only dilated to 4 centimeters. 24 hours after they started the induction, they decided to start me on pitocin and things progressed very quickly- 6 hours later I was holding my baby in my arms.
Good luck!!!
I was induced at 41 weeks. The only part of being induced that I didn't like was that I had to be at the hospital at 10 pm, on I/V and blood pressure cuff all night, with nurses/Drs coming in every hour or less to check on me. Very un-restful.
I had Cytotec for dilation, orally every hour, starting at 11 pm. I was supposed to start Pitocin at 5 am, but was in labor without it by 2 or 3 am. They offered me the epi at 5 am. I'd been intending to hold off, but I took it as soon as it was offered (the anesthesiologist arrived about 6 am). Only then was I able to catnap a bit. My water broke on its own, and I was fully dilated by 11 am. DS had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and his heartrate was dropping with every contraction. At 11 am, it dropped to 30 bpm, and he had to be born ASAP. They took us to the OR and boosted my epi in case I needed a c/s (had I not had the epi already, I would have had to be put under), but the Dr and I were able to get him out in 3 pushes, with her pulling him with forceps. He was born at 11:23 am.
I think you can still go natural if that's what you really want. Most inductions don't end in c/s. And most of them don't end in emergency deliveries like mine did. I loved my epi, though.
