First of all, I personally don't need a media's perspective to base my opinion that this whole movement is a WASTE of tax payers money when we already can't balance our budget (locally) without cutting vital programs...like bike paths. Give me a break, I've personally witnessed the so called 99% for the last 6 weeks. Whatever minute message there was before is completely gone.
The fact that this whole movement was started by a Canadian based group of anti-consumerists is mind boggling! It just goes to show how weak minded and easily influenced Americans can be when it involves: blaming the gov't for wracking up credit cards, applying for loans we KNOW we can't pay back and shackin up in a big house clearly out of your price range. These people need some accountability, not mommy and daddy to bail them out...once again.
If this is the 99%...no wonder were screwed. These people I see are the ones who are voting??? I work and struggle hard for what I have and do...I was able to pay off my student loans. Perhaps they shouldn't have acquired that BS in History of Transgender Hispanics in Western Society. Where are you to utilize that degree???
Yesterday we waited and waited for the protesters to come. They finally arrived at 4pm...all 20 of them. While I enjoyed my wine tasting I stumbled across one of the klassy protesters dropping trou and pissing on the side of our building. I thought I would embarass her by taking photos...Nope, turns out she was extra klassy and smiles to the camera while giving a peace sign
Re: Occupy Movement is a Joke and a sideshow
1. There are douchbag idiots everywhere on the political spectrum.
2. People who want attention will get it.
3. Transgender Hispanic Studies? Seriously? I had more respect for you than that.
4. I'd much rather my tax money goes towards protecting freedom of speech than invading other countries and killing humans, but I guess we can't have it all, right?
5. Although I don't support what a lot of the Occupy Movement has degraded into, I do support human rights, non-violent protest, free speech, and a more civil society.
Either way, I'm glad that people with "legitimate degrees" in your area are finding a way to be employed. Unfortunately that isn't the case in the rest of the country.
& Wait... are you near Portland? If so, I'd be snarky too. You know that's where hipster burn outs crash and never leave, right? Damn. Food stamps given to trust fund babies who've never held a job in their lives would make me feel anti-youngin' too.
step off the horse girls, I was referring to an actual protest sign used by an occupier in Oakland.
(granted I totally misquoted a rediculous sign but give me a break )
you're very close but forgot that these were burn out hipsters transplanted from California.
so obviously 'shopped it isn't even funny
and I like me a good 'shop job!
Hey man, they only came here for school after moving here from everywhere else!
Thank you Cruel for understanding now the context to which I said this to begin with.
I am not a intentional bigot...well, sometimes but not in this case
WHAT? Betch, please...that's like saying Selfie is airbrushed.
Whatev
I just learned about that whackjob!
& I'd be funny if you didn't live a few blocks from uc berkeley. oy vey. I need to live in ohio.
it just entered my brain that you're in Oakland... no bueno!
LOL
Yeah, and even though I don't like that those kids are clogging up the plaza, it is so not at all like what is being shown on Tv. Shady shizz goin' on over here.
Here we definitely have a mix of demographics...Yes we have young college kids but also middle aged unemployed, generation Xer's who have been scorned, homeless, union workers and many of the lower working class in our streets. Our city blocks look like empty war zones with spotlight generators lighting up the parks 24/7. I can't imagine what Oakland has spent but in Portland alone, our tab is close to 1 million dollars and has expected to surpass that mark over the past few days.
Just FYI: That sign is obviously photoshopped by someone trying to belittle the Occupy Movement. Look at the uniformity of the letters (all the "a"s are exactly the same etc....)
ANYwho, I am ambivalent about the movement, I disapprove of the amount of money being wasted but local municipalities on having to clean up after/protect/ etc. the protesters. Especially in a city like Oakland that is extremely strapped for cash.
That being said, I find the movement invigorating? I feel like people have been apathetic about the government and their ability to make a difference. During the 1st Obama campaign people started to realize things could be different (only to become disenchanted again with the democratic process where there is little compromise...) The Occupy Movement represent to me people who are literally putting themselves out there and saying: hey we are noticing that things aren't working so DO something about it already.
I know their issues are disjointed. I know that they are largely young people without the commitments of family etc. But doesn't change often being with young people anyway ... people who aren't completely jaded and tied to routine?
Anyway that's my 2 (random-berkeley-person) cents.
thanksbye
Ok, I respect your opinion here. But...
#1. The sign thing was a joke. Who cares if it's photoshopped or not? Not the issue here.
#2.
Yeah, but do WHAT? Nobody offers up any solutions. The only solution I keep hearing from the occupiers is they rich people should give them money because... well, because.
#3. Berkeley. Figures
(kidding!)
To me, the fact that this is being called a "movement" is hilarious. It's not a movement. It's a bunch of pre-adults who are getting slapped in the face with real life and whining til they get their way is the only way they know how to deal with things.
This just makes me want to stare at your ass for days
Okay, I'll disregard to your Captain Obvious remark and just let Fido sleep
But I cannot condone an exit like that!!!
This just erases everything in the middle of what I semi agree with.
Fvck Berkley!!!!
Exactly. That sign is soooo fake.
okay, that does it.
:: walks off post to find a pic of Captain Obvious and his sidekick Duhhhh ::
