July 2012 Moms

Loving Mom :)

So yesterday when I spiked a temp of 103.9 (after battling it for about 12 hours), I was in full panic mode. I had crazy shakes, and couldn't settle. MH was in a meeting... so I left work, somehow drove home, and took my temp.

My mother is my pharmacist, and she had no idea I was even off bcp, as we were playing the "not preventing" game, just to see what happened. Anyhow, we were hoping to announce on Christmas day.

As soon as I get sick, I just want my mom :) So, MH agreed I could call her- probably because I was near hysterical! I think she was pretty shocked (understandably), but she took it well. We got my fever down yesterday afternoon, but it went up again around 3AM, and she talked us through getting it down again.

She keeps reassuring me that I'm having no bleeding, minimal cramps, and everything is fine- she thinks I've caught a bug. I got a text from her this morning congratulating us and saying we will be wonderful parents, and she can't wait to be a Nana (this is her first grandchild).

How were your experiences telling your Mom? :)

It definitely was not my plan for her to find out this way, lol. But, considering her background, she is definitely my go to person when I'm feeling sick. And when my temp kept rising, I just knew I needed her support. I wasn't sure what her reaction would be, and I'm so relieved its positive!

  • I'm so glad you've gotten it figured out! That is scary but i'm so glad you could tell your mom. My mom is my best friend! We just found out last night, but I went over to her house today and told her. She was so excited! I said, "You're my best friend and I tell you everything so you're the first person I want to tell that i'm pregnant!!!!" She knew we were trying so it wasn't a huge surprise haha.

I am so close to my mom and it has been miserable to be honest not telling her yet. I want my mom too. She has been with me every step of the way thru the infertility issues.  She lives far away and actually I was on a surprise visit with her the week after I ovulated. I had heartburn and was quesy on different occasions and she joked how I was pregnant.  Won't she be surprised to find out she was actually right?

It's great that you got to tell you mom, sorry it had to be under such yucky circumstances.

It's definitely been a relief to tell her. She's already asking for all my symptoms so she can help haha. She's also been there, so she understands. MH is even finding her a great support!

I hope you feel better, and I'm sure your mom is over the moon excited!! We told our mom's wrapping a jar of Preggo Sauce and giving it to them, it was really funny and it took them a minute to figure out what it was for! :) They are both super excited!

I am starting to feel better, thanks! It's been pretty frightening to have such a high temp!

I love how you told your moms... such a great idea!

  • So glad you're feeling better and getting your bug under control.

I gave my mom a t-shirt that said "UNT Grandma." (UNT is where DH and I both attended and I still work.) She didn't get it right away, but my sister did. My mom was breathless. Totally shocked and thrilled. It was really cool. Smile
