XMas Gift Ideas for Newborn?

I am due November 30th and I am trying to think of super special Christmas gifts I can get my newborn DD. I want to get her something that she can pull out at Christmas every year and think to herself "I got this for my first Christmas." I am also huge on traditions and would love to get her something I can get her every year too. So far I've thought of:

- A Christmas ornament (and I could get her a new ornament every year)

- A Christmas book with a nice letter written on the inside cover (could be done every year)

- A pandora bracelet with a charm (and I could add a new charm every year)

- A nice letter from mom and dad put inside a pewter/silver scroll (that we could have engraved)

- A snow globe

What are others who are having their LOs before Christmas thinking about doing?

Re: XMas Gift Ideas for Newborn?

  • We're hopefully having our little one after christmas (If he decides to stay put!!)

But we're still just buying him some necessities. We're gonna have a book that was signed by the author to give to him, and the rest is just diapers and bath stuff.

This is our last Christmas together as just me and the hubby so I don't want too much to be focussed on the baby, but more on us so that he remembers how special he really is to me and that we're still in this together. I've got the next 18+ years to worry about the kid's gifts :)

  • I am working on a Christmas stocking-my great grandmother knit them for all of her great grandchildren and its a nice thing to use every year. (still have mine)  I like the ideas of the Christmas ornament and book-family photos are also very special.
  • I really like the stocking idea.

  • We are doing the holiday Barbie every year.
  • OneStepAhead.com has a super cute little cloth Christmas Tree that can be personalized. I was thinking of getting one of each of my girls.

  • Growing up, my parents did the ornament thing every year - I think it's a great tradition!

My parents also bought big "The Night Before Christmas" book when I was a baby, and every year it was tradition for my grandfather to read it to all the grandchildren on Xmas eve. You could find a version of the story you like, write a special note about the meaning of the holidays to you and your family inside, and start a tradition like this as well.

My great-grandmother knitted us stockings when we were born, which we still have today. My grandmother is continuing this tradition and making them for all her great grandchildren, using the exact same pattern my great-grandmother did. They show up on Xmas day filled with goodies :)

You could find a nice advent calander (not the disposable ones) - my mother still has the cloth one (you move a little xmas mouse on it) from when I was little, and she still puts it up every year.

I know this isn't a gift or anything, but every year "Santa" would leave our Xmas tree covered in candy canes (along with taking a bite from the cookies left for him)...that's how the children knew he came ;)

You could always do the tradition of opening ONE xmas gift on Xmas eve....and have it be a special set of PJs...lots of people do this I noticed. I think it's a cute idea...everyone gets a comfy new set of pjs to wear. You could start with a cute holiday onsie or sleep sack for your LO this year!

Umm...I guess that's all the ideas I have for now!

  • I just ordered this from Pottery Barn Kids: https://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/holiday-snow-globes/?pkey=gthmoccxms

I am due before Christmas so I wanted to have something for her under the tree! You can personalize it and I thought this would be something we could have out every Christmas!
