Trying to Get Pregnant
Not baby related - but wedding related
As you all know I'm getting married next month!!! I can not wait!!! But we are still planning all the details. We're going for a smaller more elaborate feel. We are getting married at a family members townhouse and planning to have the reception at a rental location. We were thinking of having a potluck reception so that there could be a different blend of food types and cooking styles. The only problem is since the wedding at reception are 30 mins aways form each other I don't think people will want to drop the food off first and then come to the wedding, but I also don't want people bringing their dishes to the wedding since we will have photographers and a videographer and people with pans under their chairs will not look good. Do you all have any suggestions or a way to make it work?

first off congrats : ) I love smaller weddings we had a smaller one and it was a awesome down home country style complete with BBQ. This is a bit of a pickle. Is there a table you could set up hidden somewhere on their way in that they could drop the food off at? Have you looked into catering at all? You might be suprised, we had a mix of BBQ and taco man (its very very popular out here) and extremely cheap, 6 dollars a person I believe.

8/3/2012 - First IVF Monitoring Appointment
8/17/2012 - Egg Retrieval (retrieved 23 eggs, 3 made it to freezer)
8/18/2012 - OHSS - hospitalized, need to wait one cycle to transfer embryo(s) due to OHSS
8/29/2012 - begin meds for frozen cycle
10/12/2012 - FET one embryo
10/24/2012 - Beta #1: 442

11/15/2012 - first u/s: baby measuring perfect, heart rate is right on target

7/6/2013 - Baby girl born after 44 hours of un-medicated labor, 2 hours of pushing, and emergency c-section due to transverse head. DD was perfectly healthy at 6 pounds, 14 ounces. We are thrilled!!

Potluck and dream wedding DO NOT go together!!! And I know that when I have gone to a potluck I dont get the feeling of elegance AT ALL!!

Look, if this is legit, and you want your guests to feel welcome and comfortable, then do NOT ask them to bring food to the wedding. It's considered horribly rude and tacky to expect guests to provide for their own meal at a wedding.
If you DO decide to ask your guests to bring a dish anyway, then do NOT request they bring a gift as well (don't register anywhere or tell people what they can get you). Their "gift" will be their time and expense in bringing food for your wedding reception.
If you're unable to afford a big lunch for your friends and family, there is no shame in that. You can absolutely have a lovely and very tasteful reception where you serve cake and punch (or other beverages). Keep it short and sweet, and provide a comfortable venue for your guests to enjoy their cake and mingle. But you need to provide those refreshments for your guests. Anything else is being a poor hostess.
