2nd Trimester

22 weeks and preeclampsia symptoms

I have a appointment on Friday but called the office just in case my dr is not available but they are having me come in to be seen by his assistant tomorrow to be checked out and was told if any symptoms worsen go to ER. Trying not to freak out or get over whelmed!

  • Those are symptoms of pre-e but, it's also signs of pregnancy. How has your blood pressure been? Has there been any protein in your urine? High blood pressure and protein in your urine will usually indicate pre-e.

Always, call or go to the ER if something feels wrong but, just know that headaches and shortness of breath are very common in pregnancy. Try not to worry too much until you see your doctor.

I had pre-e with my DS.

  • I'm trying to keep a level head right now about it. This is my second pregnancy but have never had an issue or these feelings but symptoms have gradually added/ gotten worse and there is a family history of pre-e so when i finality put it all together i called my Dr

  • I've had all but the smoky ... try not to worry too much till you get results.  Usually your imagination is 10 x worse than reality so wait till you know you have something to worry about or you will drive yourself crazy. Easier said that done I know.. but try and relax.

Good Luck and keep us updated :)

  • Watch out for seeing spots of stars too... just an FYI!
  • I had pre-e with my first later in my pregnancy.  Mine came quickly and got bad quickly.  There were some signs in hindsight I thought were pointing me in that direction but didn't know it.  Let your doctor know about any swelling in the face, hands, or feet.  Also, if you are having upper right abdominal pain always get it checked out.  I also had a 'swooshing' sound in my ear when I laid down.  It almost sounded like I could hear my heart in my ear, it was weird.

  • I also had this with my 1st pregnancy. First thing I would do is check your Blood Pressure. Do you have a home blood pressure machine? If not, go to the drug store and check it. But do not panic! This is nothing to panic about yet at all. All of the symptoms that you mentioned could be regular pregnancy symptoms. I would not assume that you have it, until you start to see higher blood pressure reading.

My questions would be blood pressure? Protine in urine (which you obviously you can't check)? and swelling in your hands? Seeing stars?

Pre-eclampsia has never been proven to be genetic. High blood pressure can be genetic, but other factors play into pre-eclampsia then just that. I agree with PP, what's your blood pressure. The signs and symptoms your having could be a multitude of things, not necessarily related to pre-eclampsia. Also, unless this second pregnancy is with a different father, chances are it's not pre-eclampsia because usually pre-eclampsia is most prominent in first time mothers, and the chances of getting it again/or just as bad are decreased in following pregnancies.

When I got diagnosed at 28 weeks with DS, My blood pressure was 170/98. It never went down, except with the help of medications. But after awhile the medications had to be increased because it would start to creep up again. Also, I had protein in my urine, was seeing stars, severe pitting edema in my legs as well as my arms and face. I would get severe headaches as well, to the point of passing out, and was gaining about 3-7lb a week just in fluid.
