Good shoes for 15-18mos, besides Strid.eRite?

We went shoe shopping for LO's this weekend for their first "real" pair of shoes (DD had a cheapie pair of sneakers till now, and DS was in borrowed).  Strid.eRite is having a BOGO 50% off sale thru today.  We found a good pair of tennies & dressier shoes for DD.  But, good lord, even on sale, I was shocked how pricey they are for 3 mos that they'll last.  However, I know that they are in the most critical months of learning to walk/run, so I'm ok with spending a little more right now.  For DS, though, they were out of his size in most styles I liked.  I may order online since today is the last day of the sale.  But, wanted to see if there were other brands/stores that you all recommended?  Neither LO has wide feet.  DD is in a size 5, DS in a 6.

ETA:  They both started walking at 12 mos and are now getting really fast/almost running.

  • We've used nothing but Target/Circo brand shoes, and they have been great for us.   They have flexible sole shoes (sort of mary jane style) for when she was an early walker, and now she is in Circo sneakers (white with silver accents that I see on a million kids at the playground) and some Circo Ugg-like boots - and having no problems whatsoever.   (She is 17 months now, but wasn't really a full-time walker until 15 months)

  • I hear you about the price.  DS had triple wide feet as a baby and still has wide feet so I am very limited on where I can get him shoes.  We do STride Right a local mom and pop store that carries wides and new balance.  We ended up at new balance on Friday to get him shoes since stride rite and the other store were out of his his size and he has gotten new shoes every 3 months since he was 12 months old.

  • Payless! I love them and they are owned by Stride Rite and are A LOT cheaper. I love their BOGO sales. I got Hayden 2 pairs of shoes (2 different sizes) during their last BOGO for $17! Yes, that was for both pairs. Good quality and last the 3-4 months he wears them.

  • Love See Kai Run.  We bought those a lot last year and they held up really well and the leather got so butter soft.  I've gotten some casual/fun not everyday shoes from Target but now that DD has an opinion about what she wears she sometimes wants to wear those exclusively.  Shoes are one are where I really don't want to skimp, if I wouldn't wear them for an 8 hour workday I don't want DD to wear them while she's running, jumping and playing all. day. long.  So Target shoes and Gymboree and all those "fashion" shoes with no arch support fit in there for me.  On the other hand, I did check out the Payless shoes and they are great, and cheap.  They use lesser materials than the Stride Rite but you can tell they are good shoes.  I also really like to go to Marshall's or Stein Mart and find awesome deals on toddler shoes.  The other day we got a really cute pair of Stride Rite boots for nearly 50% off.  Honestly DD has too many shoes for a 2 1/2 year old but again, I do for her what I do for me and she doesn't wear the same pair two days in a row so that they wear better and her feet don't rub in the same places all the time.
