Anyone wake their baby up from naps?

Just curious?  Sometimes i wake him up to feed him or if his nap is running to close to his bed time as I like from him to have an awake period prior to his 'bedtime....'

Re: Anyone wake their baby up from naps?

  • I do sometimes but my ds is a year older.  He's a micro preemie that has a g tube and due to growth issues he's had we sometimes have to wake her to make sure we're on schedule.

  • Our LO isn't a big eater so we will wake her if she's gone more than 4 hours without eating.   She's never cried or fussed when we wake her....she usually smiles and happily takes her bottle.

This is really the only time we wake her.   If I would try to keep her up before bedtime I think she would get super cranky.

  • Only if the nap would interfere with bed time. Other than that heck no?
  • I've never had to- he wakes up when he's hungry.  A few times a nap has cut it close to bedtime, but we are so still so inconsistent with the routine that I just let it happen.  He gets VERY fussy when he's overtired so I try not to let that happen.

  • My son would never nap long enough to miss a feeding...his naps have never lasted longer than 3 hours, so I don't have to wake him up to eat. We don't have a set bedtime yet, so I don't wake him up for that either. We do our small bedtime routine anywhere between 7:00 - 10:00pm, depending on when he's awake. Right now it's hard enough to get him to nap at all, so when he finally does go to sleep we don't dare wake him up.

  • When my LO was 3 weeks I would not let her go more than 3 hours without eating. That was because she had trouble gaining weight. If your baby is healthy and gaining weight nicely I would let them wake on their own.

  • I've had to wake mine from the very beginning because he'll only wake himself about half the time, the rest he'll just keep right on sleeping four hours or more. He's gotten easier to wake though, in the beginning he was *so* sleepy if would take forever to get him interested. Now he's usually stirring pretty readily when I take his blanket off.

Anyway right now I'm waking him if he's been asleep for three hours, in fact it's time to go get him up now =)

  • I have been lately just because DD is trying to go more than 3 hours between feedings, which would really drop the number of feedings a day if she did that!  I also do the wake-before-bedtime thing too.  She doesn't seem too disturbed most of the time when I do that, but sometimes I kick myself for waking her.
