Upstate NY Babies

I'm just catching up on posts and saw yours about the cruise. For cruises leaving from and returning to the U.S you do NOT need a passport. We went on a 7 day caribbean cruise with no passport in 2010. I just got my passport updated with my new name... $140. punch to the gut.

  • Thanks.  But it looks like the airfare is going to be a deal breaker on the cruise :-(  Over $500 round trip for the days of the cruise.  By the time I cover all my expenses with the cruise, airfare, transportation and spending money, it would be close to $1000.  Too much IMO for a 4 day vacation for just me.

I think I am going to fly down to Tx and just visit my BFF instead, I haven't seen her kids since each of them were babies.

  • I'm not trying to influence your decision at all (Texas sounds awesome) but does the cruise leave from Miami? Ours always do and it's like $400 roundtrip. The ship has a transfer from Ft Lauderdale- so we fly into there for less than $200 roundtrip. Just something to consider.

  • Carnaval says it leaves from the Orlando area, which is inland so Orlando must just be the closest city to the port.  It used to be much cheaper to fly to Orlando, I had a bit of sticker shock when I looked up the fares!  Maybe it is just that week. I dunno, I just found a rate of $334 on Priceline with a 4 hour layover in Washington DC.  My BFF from college, also my MoO in my wedding, lives in DC.  Might be nice to finish off my trip with dinner and drinks with her during my layover.  $334 is better than the $500 I found everywhere else, but not the $250ish I was expecting.
  • Do it and don't worry about the money :)
