Preemies

It's official...she's got a big head

I've posted before about C's big ole' head...Friday at her 9 month check up, her weight (15.3 pounds) and height (25 in) were not on the chart for her adjusted age but her head...well...her head was in the 85 percentile. Indifferent  So, while her dr thinks it's fine since her head has always been higher on the charts than her body, but he is sending her for a cranial ultrasound just to make sure there's not any extra fluid.  If it's not one thing, it's another, ya know?

Anyway, on a more exciting note, he is very happy with her weight gain and her height has caught up (at her last checkup she was "short" and I of course was freaking out about that b/c I freak out about everything).

He did officially diagnose her with a motor delay (even adjusting for age) but we already knew that and he's confidant with her PT and OT she'll be on track soon.

Oh, and by the way, he did notice the rug burn.  Lucky for me I didn't get a lecture on leaving my baby unattended... Embarrassed

Also, I asked him about the "preemie septum" comment the opthmologist made that I posted about.  He said he's never heard of that and her septum looked normal to him.  Yay!  One less thing to worry about!

  • My son's head is big too - at his 9 mo he was 27 inches long, 16 lb 9 oz heavy and his head was 25 inches around.  So real age 10%, 3% and 50% respectively.  My doc wasn't concerned yet - but it's like dang, can you grow your little body too?
  • My Chris too. Our Neurologist didn't like the size of his head and the fact that it grew so fast it bother her even more. He had an head U/S and all is fine. He just has a big head....a little flat on the side. But he is soo freak*ng cute
  • One of our DDs has a big head, the other's is small, and it really sets them apart.  I never asked pedi about the %iles for head.  . . maybe next visit.

I keep telling everyone she takes after me with the big head, and they brush me off thinking i'm insulting myself but it's true  - I'm in a dance group where we wear head pieces, so i know for a fact that I have a big head (because relative to the other girls, there are only 3 of us out of >20 who need the big head pieces!) !  Meanwhile, DH has a smaller head and a baby face, so Lucie takes after him.

Our problem is that DDs are bald (and likely will be for a while if they take after me as a baby) - so it's a big bald head!

  • My niece was a preemie and her head is big for her little body. She's 15 months and she wears a size 6 to 9 months in clothes. I'm sure in time your precious princess will grow all over. Don't worry! Any improvement that she makes is great!
  • My DD has a big head too! her weight is 15th percentile, her length 65th and her head...95th!

I guess I am a little glad I didn't have to push that out, one of the pros I guess to what happened.
