How long do you do quiet time for?

DS is starting to outgrow his nap (*sob*).  I wanted to still have him do quiet time in his room.  How long do you usually keep them in there?  If they want to come out, do you still make them stay there?  Do you pretty much let them do whatever they want while they're in there?

ETA:  He fell asleep with his cars lined up in a row next to his face!!!!  Maybe this is reverse psychology working!

    I'm lucky if DS naps once a week. I have him do quiet time in his room for at least an hour. As long as he's not jumping around or anything I don't care what he does - he usually just reads or talks to him toys. If he opens his door before the hour is up (we have a gate in front of his door so he can't get out) I tell him nap time isn't over yet and he goes back in. He'll sometimes stay in there for 90+ minutes just playing. I still think sleep would be better but as long as he's having some quiet time I'm fine with it.

    She does at least an hour.  I cant even remember the last time dd took a nap in her room (not in the car) she just plays with whatever as long as she is quiet!

    One hour, in the bed (no leaving the bed), toys and books are okay in the bed.
    My darling daughter just turned 4 years old.

    DD usually still takes a nap, at least half the week. She always has to stay in bed and she has a few stuffed animals she keeps with her that she'll play with if she doesn't nap. We usually keep her in the room 2 hours, sometimes up to 3, but she doesn't try to come out or whine or cry about being in there, so I take advantage of the free time.

    An hour - he still really need to be napping.  He usually "reads" his books and listens to music.  I just expect him to be quiet and not jumping all over the place.
