Unpopular Opinion

I will get us started:

Put down the pee sticks!  I get frustrated when I see posts about someone who is pregnant and they are peeing on sticks and freaking out because the line is not as dark as a previous pee stick.   I understand ladies who have lad a loss wanting to feel reassured until they see the OB...but lots of ladies who have not had a loss pee on sticks and freak out over the hue of the line.

I also think Paterno deserved to be fired....you don't tell your boss about someone who could be sexually abusing a child....you call the dayum police!

  • Our town postponed Halloween last week due to damage from the snowstorm.  It was moved to last Friday, Nov. 4th.  I personally don't think holidays should be moved.  If the conditions are dangerous, then either cancel it or set up trick or treating somewhere safe like a government center, etc.  I believe it's the parent's responsibility to go with their kids and ensure their safety.  I'm worried that this will create of a bunch of spoiled, entitled kids who think everything should revolve around them.

(I am not a parent yet, so this is totally from someone who does not have kids and probably doesn't really understand).

  • 1) I think that women who get all wired out and stressed out over how they will hide the fact they are not drinking from friends and family because "people are always used to seeing them with a drink in hand" really need to get a grip and/or reevaluate their relationship with alcohol. Also, you shouldn't have to explain to anyone why you are choosing not to drink. "Because I don't feel like drinking," is a perfectly acceptable response that should be respected.

    2) I think Herman Cain is an unqualified doofus.

    3) I think that, in extreme cases of misbehavior (like lying or stealing for example) spanking is a valid and effective form of punishment for children and I don't get why people who carry out appropriate amounts of corporal punishment are generally demonized. I was spanked when I really effed up and I turned out just fine. In fact, I think I turned out better for it.

    4) Occupy Wall Street (and various other "occupy" movements). If you assault police officers by hurling objects at them, willfully and purposely damage private property,  set fires in the streets, and take part in other behavior typically considered ILLEGAL then you deserve to be brought under control (by force if necessary) and taken to jail. Being frustrated because you feel like you are "entitled" to this that or the other in life doesn't give you the permission to break the law and get away with it. Grow up and go find a job. Jobs are out there. It's not my fault that you feel like you are too good to flip burgers or run a cash register.

    5) You aren't entitled. To anything. Put your big girl/boy panties on and deal with it.

Wow...I only woke up like 30 minutes ago and I'm just full of unpopular opinions. Thanks for listening to me rant. All of that has been on my mind for a while...

  • I agree with allisonmarie22.... we aren't entitled to anything.... even a baby... That's my unpopular opinion
  • I agree with Michelle Rhee that our children are being set up for long term failure in today's education system.  We spend too much time worrying about how they FEEL and how to make the grades reflect each student's strengths rather than holding them to high, firm standards.  I really don't care if my OB was a kinesthetic, auditory, or visual learner.  I care that he scored high on his boards and has a very low rate of malpractice.  I say this as a teacher as I watch us remove content every year from our classes because the kids can't handle it and, rather than give them C's, we just make it easier so they can get A's and B's.

I agree with you 100%.  My mom was a HS math teacher, and I was amazed at things she would tell me like how kids were automatically entitled to getting make-up tests if they fail so they would feel better.  All she did was talk about how all the curriculum was getting water downed.

Also, when we were growing up, if we did poorly on a test, etc, it was always our fault cause we didn't study enough, etc (except in the rare case of one horrible teacher).  However, my mom would tell me she would have parents calling the teachers to basically blame them for their kids doing poorly even though the kids weren't doing their homework, assignments, etc.  These were HS kids.  Isn't it time for parents to be holding the kids accountable?

Yes to all of the above.  I also agree with the POAS comment.  A darker line doesn't mean you are any more pregnant.  Some test lots are just different and produce darker lines.  Also, if you were to lose the baby the tests would show positive for quite awhile at this point because your body would still have HCG in it.

    1.  You graduate from high school.  You graduate from college.  You don't GRADUATE from kindergarten, or 5th grade or 9th grade.  It's not graduation, it's adequacy.  And treating it like it's some monumental feat lessens the significance of life's true accomplishments.

    2.  We need a non-government controlled health care insurance option that is a non-profit who's best interest is health care rather than the bottom line.  Wikipedia defines a credit union as  a cooperative financial institution that is owned and controlled by its members and operated for the purpose of promoting thrift, providing credit at competitive rates, and providing other financial services to its members.   Why can't there be a health care option that runs the same way?

    3. Mushrooms are no more a food item than compost.

  • Personally -- I don't get the feather hair extension thing. It's not cute and just a passing fad, hopefully very quick. Also, I am not excited or give two craps about the new Twilight movie and, frankly, sick of hearing about  it. Especially from adult women who get all googly-eyed over it. Um yeah, your 30 and this movie is barely tolerable for teenagers.

  • I don't know if its so much of an unpopular opinion as much as a frustration..

I'm using a midwife and want a home birth. Some people go to a hospital and have a natural birth. Some people go into the hospital and know they want a c-section.

I don't have a problem with any of these choices. we are all just doing what is best for us and our baby. I don't judge you or make you justify your choices, so I would appreciate it if you didnt judge me, act like i'm crazy, just because my birth plan is different.

we all want the same thing...a healthy happy baby.

I am doing as much as I can to be healthy, listen to my body, and enjoy this time, but those posts scare me so much. I am not trying to be unsupportive when I don't comment on them - I am very sorry for everyone who has experienced a loss, they are constantly in my thoughts, but I find it too hard (too real and too close) to comment.

I know it's not really an UO (or even an opinion) but it is how I feel and why I act the way I do.

I wanna play. I like Hermain Cain. I don't think Paterno should have been fired, should have my allowed to resign as planned, he did tell the school they chose not report to authorities.  I get peeing on mulitiple sticks having a previous loss.Oh and I actually like term "preggo".

Paterno should have gone to the authorities.

I find it hard to read some of the "lost myJuneBug" posts. This is my first pregnancy and every little thing scares me.

I choose not to open those posts. My heart breaks every time I see a post titled like this. I feel inadequate to write anything other than I am sorry, and as horrible as it makes me, I just don't want to think about it. I know it could happen at anytime to me too, but it makes me sad and nervous to read about.

So, let's say you're a teacher and you walk into a bathroom to find another faculty member sexually assaulting a child. You tell your principal, but he/she does nothing about it. Do you really think it would be acceptable to not step up to the plate and do something about it yourself, or do you just think it's ok to leave the pedophile alone and let them go about their business? That's essentially what happened here.

Seriously?? You have a moral obligation as a HUMAN BEING to not just turn the other way when sh!t like that is going on!
