My child is 2 years and 2 months old and still has a bottle at night.

Three bottles actually. Consecutively. That's 24 oz of milk in one sitting. Cannot drop the bottle. I have tried *every* sippy on the market. He doesn't eat at school (very picky). The milk is one of his only sources of nutrient in each day.

I am frustrated but becoming at peace with it.

Do what you have to do. S drank her milk out of a bottle until she was 2.5. One morning I had a talk with her about it, and she agreed to let me put the bottles away. I switched her to those milk boxes with a straw and then to a straw sippy cup. The milk box made it easy because I could squeeze it a little to get her to drink the milk until she figured out how the straw worked.

You'll know when he's ready to stop using the bottles. In the grand scheme of things it is so not a big deal

Girl! I hardly get over here anymore, but so glad to see you!!!! No advice about Jace and the bottle - D was on the boob until 13 months, and outside of that she started on sippy cups around 9 months. I understand about the being picky and not eating at day care though....if D had her way, she would live on cheese and yougurt.

We need an update from you - miss you much lady!

Hey girls! I really miss you all a lot! All is good. I don't know if I mentioned this or not but I started a new job 3 months ago. My daily commute went from three hours to three and a half hours. How did that happen? Apparently, I am nuts. Love the job though.

DD still has one bottle before bed. It's mostly because she had constipation issues so it's the best way to get her to take her full dose at one time instead of over a few hours in a sippy (which doesn't make it work). She is a very picky eater & sometimes doesn't eat much during the day. She's also pretty tiny so I see her night time bottle as OK since it serves double duty.

My son still drinks from his Dr Brown bottles. He has done well with the Playtex 12 month insulator sippy cups that I got from Target. My son has tendency to turn over his sippy cup, so this sippy cup worked better for us in public.

I'm with you and I don't make a big deal out of it. He still has a bottle in the morning and one at bedtime. At day care he drinks milk fine out of a sippy but at home he wants the bottle. It's a comfort / mommy thing. I brush his teeth at night after the bottle so I'm not too worried about it. At some point when I have more energy, I'll wean him off and also start potty training. Two areas where I'm seriously slacking, lol.

Also, Adrian has about 24 oz of milk a day and still eats a lot. He has a great appetite and it HUGE for his age. So in my case, I'm not concerned. But the pedi did say that it's best for them not to drink more than 16 oz a day, so the milk won't interfere with their appetite. If you have that issue, then weaning from the bottle would be better.

He does drink from regular cup- just not milk. For him, milk has to be in a bottle. And yes, it is about a picky 2 year old in a sense...he has some sensory stuff going on and has texture issues. For you to say this is a parent issue kind of pissed me off. If it's a "parent issue" that I want to feed my child the one thing he will eat, then yes, I guess it is a "parent issue."

I wish I had an answer/suggestion for you. When I did no bottles cold turkey for milk, Aaron stopped drinking milk altogether. He'll drink water from cups (usually straw cups) but refused to drink milk from anything but a bottle. To this day, he maybe gets 1-2 oz of milk per week max. He just won't drink it.

He drinks water.

So if Jace isn't eating beyond the milk, I'd definitely speak to your pediatrician again about this and see if what's up.

I guess you could try to spread out the milk consumption over the course of the days so he doesn't drink 3 bottles consecutively. That probably is not good for future potty training (all that liquid before bed) and it could make it easier to wean him off.

Hope something changes soon.

I completely disagree with the PP. Stopping cold turkey can be really traumatic for some kids. If I had forced my DD to drop the bottles before she was ready, it would have been awful for all of us. It was such a strong comfort object for her. Like your DS, she drank water out of a regular cup, but she wouldn't touch milk at all unless it was in a bottle.

Have you thought about seeing a feeding specialist for his texture issues? My sister took my nephew to one. Your pedi could refer you to one. They might have some tips for you.

Thanks for the reply I had EI come and evaluate him. They didn't think he had any serious issues. They advised that I just keep trying to slowly introduce foods that got closer each time to textures he avoids. Example, he won't touch bread. So, they advised that I start with crackers (loves), then move on to cereal bar (loves), then try bread or cake again. It's still a definite "no" on the spongy textures but I have no doubt that we will get there eventually . I agree about the bottle being a source of comfort, too. He was never a paci kid so I tend to think it's just his way of soothing before bed.

Oh! And I agree about stopping cold turkey could be traumatic. Robyn mentioned to me previously that when she took the bottle away, Aaron stopped drinking milk. I was afraid Jace would do the same thing. Fortunately, Aaron is a better eater than Jace so Robyn doesn't have all of her eggs in one basket

I know...I have my hands full with the potty training. He has no desire at all to start so I am not pushing it. But as it is now, I couldn't do it anyway because of the pre-bed consumption!

Heya! We're doing OK. Aaron is doing really well with EI (speech delay) and tomorrow I'm having him evaluated by a specialist just to reassure myself and DH that it's JUST a language issue and nothing further developmentally. He's saying more and more and the tantrums are less and less.

I haven't even started potty training yet. But not worried at all. He'll get there eventually. And Aaron has become quite the picky eater. That being said, he eats well and is 32 or 33 lb now (and probably 37 plus inches tall).

If Jace is having sensory issues, could he have SPD? I don't think it has to do with delays at all (maybe ask on Special Needs) but how he processes things. Just something I thought of when you mentioned his aversions to spongy textures. Anyway, hope you're doing OK with the new job and everything. Pop me an email and we'll catch up more.
