Dr Browns bottles and formula mixing

OK maybe i'm just a tired spaz of a new mom but i'm totally confused. I am using the dr browns bottles for my DS with Similac powdered formula. I know you can't shake formula in the dr browns bottles because it will make them leake and screw up the vent system so what do you do when you go out and you have to make your baby a bottle?

What is anyone else doing?

TIA!!!

  • There are some dr browns covers you can buy that screw on which would work fine for shaking the formula. I pre make all our bottles for the day and I use the covers on the bottles when storing in the fridge.

  • I have had no problem shaking them as long as all the parts were together and on the bottle. I did have sleep deprivation moment and didn't put the blue or cream colored part on it and just screwed the nipple on and tried to shake it and it went everywhere. Maybe that is what you are referring to? Make sure all the parts are assembled and you should be fine.

  • I shake as well.  I usually put that little disc in under the nipple and remove after shaking.  I also just pick up the vent a little to make sure no formula is in the tube.

This is what I do as well,  I use the cover, shake it and then give it to DS with the other parts of the bottle put in.  No leaks

  • Dr brown's also makes a great mixing pitcher if you want to make your bottles ahead of time. it helps cut down on the bubbles.

  • Thanks guys! I'll try shaking with the disc or the other little screw caps on. I have the mixing pitcher and I love it for when we are home. I was having trouble with making formula for him if we were not home so I'll try your suggestions.

  • We've found that if we shake it with the lid on, it leaks. So we usually just don't put the lid on, cover the hole with our finger and shake. No leaking that way.
