Our car seat manuel says 22 lbs, 28 inches or one year.... we switched this week (she just turned one) and I have no doubt that we are within the guidelines. I don't want a ton of posts telling me how horrible I am, but where did this two year limit come from? I've never even heard that.
In March the AAP and National Highway Traffic Safety Admin changed their recommendation to 2 years.

I am shocked that you haven't heard about it. Or that your pedi didn't tell you about it. By forward facing, you are putting your child at a MUCH greater risk for a spinal cord injury in an accident.
DD will be forward facing when she reaches the RF limits of her seat. It's already a hassle to get her in and out that way, but I'll deal with it for her safety.
I am planning to stick it out until 2 unless some unforeseen circumstance pops up that gives me reason to turn her around sooner, but so far she is still happy RFing, and we've stuck it out this long, so why not?
On the other hand, I turned DS around when he was 14 months old because he began twisting his body in the seat, arms outreached towards me, screeching on the top of his lungs until his face was fire red and his hair was soaked with sweat. It rattled my nerves so bad that I couldn't concentrate on the road, so I would not judge anyone who turns their LO around sooner. You have to do what is right for you and your child.
It wasn't really clear from the OP if she can't use LO's mirror or the rearview mirror. If the seat is blocking her sight out of the back window, I might consider that a bigger risk then FF.

I hadn't heard about it until TB and none of my IRL friends that are parents have any idea about this new recommendation. I'm the only one I know that still RF's and T just turned 1 last week.
I guess I would think that more pediatricians would be telling people about it. I know our pedi was all about extended rear-facing when DD was little and she is almost 4. The info is posted all over her office.
We will probably turn DD when LO #2 arrives---she should be a little more than 2. At that point we'll have to put a car seat behind the driver's seat and I don't think a RF seat would allow my seat to be as far back as it needs to be.
DD is still RF. She's barely even 21lbs, and with the amount of interstate driving, and winter coming up also, I'm not about to turn her around anytime soon. At the rate she's gaining weight I'll probably take her to prom rear-facing. Her seat is rated for 40# RF.

I am a little shocked by this too. Our local news station had it on their website for about a month and talked about it multiple times. I saw it in several stores near the carseats and our Pediatrician absolutely told us about it multiple times.

Sorry I wasn't clear in my original post. My concern was that I usually put the mirror in front of my child so I can see that mirror in my rearview mirror so I can keep an eye on her. With the Britax I got it's so much taller than an infant seat that I can't see her from the mirrors anymore. It doesn't help that I am so short to begin with which might be part of the problem.
Do you all still use mirrors for them so you can see them? If so, maybe I just need to adjust mine. I want to keep her RF but I don't like not being able to see her at all.

I am waiting til 2 since with our car seat, I am certain C will still fit correctly unless he shoots up 4 inches by then.
Anyone who moves to FF before then would be wise to not mention it on TB, or be prepared for the interwebz judging.

I have also never used a mirror. She's strapped in - she can't get into much trouble!

I use a fisher price mirror that has a tether to adjust height. I'm short and drive a Versa. I can see her just fine but if I go over a bump it sometimes (well a lot of time) knocks it out of place. It's not very useful for us anyway and she's fine in DH's car without it.

This blows my mind. It was all over the news. Even the national news. Some people were up in arms over it because the new recommendations meant their kids who were out of boosters should be back in them. It was all over my Facebook feed, too.
I live in the city so we're rarely ever in a car, so most of this doesn't even apply to my life, but I just read the AAP article, and it contains this sentence:
"The ?age 2? recommendation is not a deadline, but rather a guideline to help parents decide when to make the transition,? Dr. Durbin said. ?Smaller children will benefit from remaining rear-facing longer, while other children may reach the maximum height or weight before 2 years of age.?

Yeah, I am pretty sure everyone knows that....... Most people are saying that they are hoping to make it to 2, which can be achieved in most seats now, unless you have a giant baby.

I really haven't heard this guideline before. We don't have cable or internet at home and our doctor has never mentioned it. She does meet two out of three requirements to turn it around, so I really wasn't worried... until everyone started freaking out on here! Regardless of what we decide to do, I'm slightly shocked that people are so judgmental. Thats what I get for posting on a "parenting website".

We're wating until at least 2. That said, we have Britax, which is fairly big, and use a mirror. Are you sure there's no way to rig one up?
