Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Do you have suggestions for explosive poop stain?

I'm trying to be proactive this time... DS 1 was an explosive pooper for months and months and a lot of his clothes were ruined. I was reminded of this, because a friend of mine is going through this now. Do you have any suggestions or miracle products that will help with these stains? It would be great to have a plan before DS 2 gets here :). TIA

  • If I use it right away the Dreft Stain Remover works really well!

I've also heard OxyClean but I haven't used it! Maybe that would be good after it's been washed and still stained?

I'm finding the BFing orange poop is SUPER hard to get out! Ugh!

  • I highly recommend making your own laundry soap.  Seriously.  It takes about 10 minutes to make a month's worth.  I use a bar of Fels Naptha soap (found either in the laundry or soap aisles of some supermarkets), 3/4 cup of Arm & Hammer *washing* soda and 3/4 cups of Borax.  I use a mini food processor to powderize the bar of soap and stir in the other two powders.  I use a rounded tablespoon for normal loads and 1.5 tablespoons for especially dirty loads.  I also use oxyclean with the dirtier loads.

I also recommend using Fels Naptha as a pretreater.  I just wet the stain with cold water and rub the bar of soap on the stain.

I have yet to find anything that won't come out with the pretreating, homemade detergent and oxyclean.  Poop, blood, you name it, it comes out.

  • With DD, I learned that if poop gets on something, I would have two choices  to save it -

One is to wash it RIGHT AWAY. Rinse it with water and wash it seriously immediately, hopefully you have other dirty clothes to be washed, too, so that it isn't a waste of water and energy, haha.

The other is bleach alternative. (Use the extra rinse option)

  • Soak in a bucket of oxyclean.  It works great!
  • We use Grandma's Spot Remover.  Bed Bath and Beyond carries it.  Works GREAT!

  • In all honesty, if it is poopy all the way up to her neck, I just cut the onesie off and count it as a loss.

I have saved many a garment though. I wipe off the excess poop with a baby wipe and then spray the spot w/ the Dreft Stain Remover. Then throw it in the laundry on hot. Works like a charm! I highly recommend it.

And I don't have any remaining stains on anything. Even when she has pooped all over her white onesies, they are still white! And I have accidentally left them overnight without throwing them in the wash and it still gets it out.

  • Honestly, plain old Shout spray. DD2 blew out twice this weekend while we were out of town and I didn't get to wash the clothes until yesterday. Sprayed them with Shout, rubbed it in a little, and washed like normal. Saved the sleep, onesie and pants :)

  • I would look on the cloth diaper board FAQ for detergents that get out poop and wash routines.  Good luck.
  • oxyvlean for laundry spray does AMAZING! I haven't had to toss a single thing since I started using it.
  • We soak with Oxyclean baby in a bucket of hot water for at least 30 minutes. This has gotten every stain out for us... even on white onesies.

  • Thanks for asking this!  I already have a few casualties; hopefully no more though!

  • Oxyclean Max Force stain stick usually gets the BF poop stains out... if one is by chance too stubborn for it, I soak it overnight in a bucket of hot oxyclean water.  I don't bother with the Oxyclean spray unless it's the Max Force spray... the regular stuff is no better than the Shout squirt bottle spray.  I haven't had to sacrifice any outfits after putting Oxyclean on them.

So there's this boy. He kinda stole my heart. He calls me "Mom"

  • Wash out what you can by hand and then put it outside for a few hours.  The sun naturally bleaches the poop, but not the color of the fabric.  It's easy and free!  I was skeptical when I heard this in another post, but it actually works.  We had a Major blowout last week...completely soaked up the back on a patterned white onsie and there was no trace of the stain afterward.

This exactly.  We keep a bucket in the tub and soak all of her poopy things in hot water and Oxyclean Baby.  I've managed to get out every single stain.  I also soak for hours.  Sometimes overnight.
